Really getting downhearted with this project now, as I seem to be going over and over the same problems and not being able to fix them.

Trying to paint up my Yorkshire Props Stunt PR and there's a couple of small areas on the left side of the rifle that remain tacky, no matter how long you leave the paint to cure.

Also there's a couple of spots where the paint seems to dry a darker colour, like there's a stain underneath.

In the case of the tacky paint, I sanded it right back to the bare resin, put a bit of car body filler over the area in an atempt to seal it, re-primed then re-did the top coat. But, still got the same problem.

In the case of the darker stain, I lightly sanded and reprimed, then re-sprayed the top coat with my air brush, yet it's still discoloured???? (pics below).

I'm about at my wits end because it takes so long between each step and keep having to go back over things, rather than moving onto the next thing.

Any suggestions, before I give up and throw everything in the bin?

Was it tacky or slightly off when you got it??
It could be mould release that hasn’t been washed off.

I've had a similar problem with a resin VP70 in that paint wouldn't set on a small patch on the grip. I tried different paints, sanding and cleaning with white spirit but the problem persisted. In the end I resorted to cutting away a chunk of resin (I used a drill to get deep in a narrow area) and rebuilding that area with epoxy putty. I suspect it is some problem with the chemical mix of the resin itself, with some sort of bubble forming where the curing or setting agent hasn't reached.

After speaking with Yorkshire Props, I have resorted to grinding out the entire area with a dremmel, rather than just sanding back.

Have filled the areas using car body filler and re-sprayed with primer.

Tomorrow I shall respray the top coat and see what happens.

As for the dark patches, have sprayed over them with clear coat/laquer. That should hopefully do the trick when I come to respray.

I use a primer for plastics called bulldog adhesion promoter - makes stuff stick no matter what _

OK, paints done. Gonna give it a coat of laquer/clear coat tomorrow and that's it done.
