The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm in the process of making a copy of the Beyerdynamic M560 in aluminum.
Here's the current prototype, still missing some details:

I have found some measurements on these forums and derived the rest from photos that I searched all over the internet.
However, I'm still missing a couple of dimensions related to the boom section. Metric units are preferred.

See photo for details:

A) Distance from the back part to the start of the bend.
B) Distance from the front part to the start of the bend.
C) Radius of the circle that makes the inner bend.
d) The length of the inner arc of the bend.

Thank you very much for your help.

My HM560 is in the depths of my chaotic storage room and can't easily be retrieved, but if this turns into a run, I am IN! :delta:

Kind of tough for me to measure mine as one is a smartgun headset and the other on a helmet, so I am measuring over the top of things to get "A".
However, my best effort says....

A - 3-3/4"
B - 7/8"
D - ~1"

(C-? dont really have the tools for that right off hand)

(and Yes, I also would need 2x of these if it becomes a product!)

Thank you all for your interest. I can make this into at least a limited run if I can get the size and shape right.

Thank you very much, this helps me along.

I am trying to think of ways to get more accurate measurements. Could you possibly take a photo of the microphone on top of a gridded paper with known grid size? I could be able to calculate the measurements from the photo. If you could at least get the bend and some of the straight parts on top of the paper.

Does someone have one that is not fastened to their helmet yet?

Alternatively, if someone has an original for sale, I would be interested. I'm trying to get the measurements as close to the original as possible.

Hi Epsilon,

looks like your mike boom got bend somehow.
I checked both my helmet and my SG-headset - both have a straight boom and then the curve near the microphone (as in the drawing above).

Sorry for the bad news.
Stefan

Don't worry too much about it - real life military equipment also has its "features" ;)
Gives your armor some character!
Also I think the pictures will surely be of help nonetheless.

Cheers

Thank you very much! This will surely get me forward.
Seems like I was within a millimeter in most of my dimensions.

Could you measure the head diameter of one of the screws? I'm guessing they are M1.6 screws but I could only find M2 with that type, that's why my screws look bigger.

The head diameter measures 2.56 /2.55 mm for all 9 screws.

It seems they are size M1.4 then. I'll see if I can find those. Might prove to be difficult with that shape.

The screw standard is most likely DIN 964 for future reference.

I might have to use DIN 963, which are the same except with flat head instead of a dome.

You should be able to get those out of China, the wait might be a big though...

Thanks, but those are not DIN 964 and not even machine screws, but wood screws. Also, they should not have a phillips head, it should be slotted.

Ah, apologies. just showing results of a quick search. In light of what you said:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2028350 ... web201603_

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1000018 ... web201603_

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3298324 ... web201603_

Do any of those work?

I stress many times online that every one's search results are unique to just them and merely ask to provide the search results of what the other party is using as a basis for discussion. As such I have no issues providing what I can find.

I have no issues being told I am wrong, off, or otherwise incorrect. That merely informs me that I have yet much more to learn.

No problem. I also am always happy to take constructive criticism.

I have a source for M1.4 DIN 963 screws, but not DIN 964, apparently they seem to be rare in such small sizes.

Yes, I have sent inquiries to them about these, but no answer.
They are not a supplier, though. It's just a portal that will send your inquiry to a number of companies. Haven't had good luck with it in the past. Maybe my inquiries are too special.

No, most likely the are affected by a lock down and are not staffed or may have closed their doors. Let me make some local calls here and see if I can run down anything as there are a couple of fastener companies here local but they are not always known to carry some of the odder things...

Thanks you.

I will go forward with M1.4 DIN 963 screws for now, so I can keep the project going. But I will keep an eye out for DIN 964.
I am also in process of making a bending jig for the booms.

If anyone that reads this is good at other languages than english please checkout fasteners.eu and check some of the supplier links. I can puzzle some languages but not all. Looks like German, French and Mandarin(chinese) are needed to properly translate.

OK, I checked alibaba.com. I found a supplier and it is only 50 or so dollars for a thousand piece order minimum.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ ... 15e78un8gR

And it has the sizes you need I think.

Those are DIN 963. I can get them from Europe quite fast.
DIN 964 I can't find anywhere.
