The bulb burned out on my Matsuo shoulder lamp a few years back and it has been on my 'to-do' list forever. This weekend I finally knocked it out.
I decided, "nuts to that bulb and screw those 'D' batteries." Time to go LED.
I have a couple of these rechargeable LED pocket lights at home. 500 lumen max, but adjustable. These seemed like the perfect item to adapt into my lamp.

I basically just gutted everything, pulled out the good bits, re-soldered some wires, then slapped it all back together!
I succeeded in drastically reducing weight and keeping a pretty darn bright output with a 10 hour battery life, all rechargeable via micro USB on the bottom of the housing!
I have uploaded the video to my youtube page (check it out and subscribe!).
