Post subject:  Another question on the Smartgunner headset

What piece mounts to the headset and links the megatron scope to swivel and pivot?

Part of the Olympus T28 twin flash

All of these questions regarding the Smartgun headset should really be in one thread haha :delta:

Your point is valid.

I am trying to grasp which part of the t28 actually mounts on the headset and how it mounts on the headset. Do we have any reference pictures?

OK, so on the t28 micro with swivel they modded the flash light piece to be the mounting point. That said theoretically with one unit purchased you can make a couple of headsets.

Now, given the rarity do we know of anyone that has made a 3d file of that part?

the cheapest I can find an actual unit is a 100. I could get a close facsimile sanding down a block of wood.

The smartgunner build is a littler over 3k at this point so I am trying to avoid increasing it any large amount.

theres a seller on etsy who designed a decent shoulder lamp in 3D for printing. maybe worth contacting them and seeing if theyd wanna take on this project, theyd benefit because they could sell the files thereafter and you could provide them with the research and reference material. just an idea. Also Mars Attack did a small run of kits ages ago.

I think I sourced a suitable part. I just hate having to hack a piece of history to make a costume. I will get pictures as I make things work as to my knowledge that does not exist. Thanks to the pictures provided in the thread I was able to figure out how things were mounted.

I wouldn't recommend the data from that particular seller. Got burned with a SST helmet that only vaguely looks like the original and the other files seem to suffer from similar flaws. Their Morita is especially bad.

I plan to make 3D files for both the eyepiece and for the shoulder lamp, I just don't have enough time because of my day job and commision work that has priority over personal costume projects.

smartzzgunner has a set of files, only missing part is the t28 macro flash piece to mount to the headset.

Ok progress is slow. A block of wood would word with the 3d file. The t28 flash piece has to be gutted. The glass is plastic so mounting holes can be drilled with it

Cool Joker.

Given how big the screen is, I think you're gonna have to recess that mounting as deeply as you can, else have the eye cup sitting off of your face ...

I use Blender. It's free/open-sourced but has a steep learning curve. Lots of tutorials and cheap but very great e-courses. Check out Udemy.com. I have one I'm taking by "GameDev.tv" and it's excellent.

Had a look at sights on "YourProps". Only found 2 listed there and both appear to be made with MarsAttack kits. I happen to have 2 MarsAttack eye cups here so let me know what measurements you'd like. I may be putting these two MarsAttack cups on the PX soon as I'm not quite satisfied with their accuracy - NOT to say there's anything wrong with them, they're excellent quality.

Test print came out great.

I might make a couple very small changes such as building up the definition of the detailing in some areas (It was freehand sculpted) and adjusting the opening hole where the Megatron scope connects to be a hair or two bigger and slightly tilt the "bump" downward.

The plan is to replicate the resin cast insert to be press-fit into the window and also replicate the inner detailings where the "screen" is on the inside.

Pictured next to it is the MarsAttack eye cup which I found to be larger based on the few measurements Harry was able to provide the forum.

For the diopter lease I have placed an order with this outfit:
https://www.good-lite.com/Details.cfm?ProdID=1347

To find out what diopter factor you need go to your eye doctor with your setup and explain the situation. They will most likely find the information very cool on what you are trying to do.

They will have a complete set of diopters so you can figure things out. The eye doctor if you have glasses will be familiar with your vision limitations and should be able to quickly help you select a proper magnification factor.
