https://www.banggood.com/CNC-Short-Stun ... rehouse=CN Apparently some recent google searches showed a close match on a left stunt clutch lever. Given the nature of the film, they would have had plenty of stunt clutch levers on hand as those parts would likely break during filming chase scenes, but the stunt aspect for Hollywood and chase scenes did not pick up until the 70s/80s any who. |

The clutch lever used was identified awhile ago by M56 Smart One as a Magura Short lever. They're harder to find as Magura doesn't make that style anymore so you have to get lucky on eBay and find a correct vintage one. Below is a photo of mine (although it's bent slightly. I think it adds character ) Attachment: Reference Attachment:

At this point the stuff is so old, half the time, you only find things in museums. I am finding I am having to find modern day equivalents just to get things affordably. |

Indeed nice find indeed. I am trying to get something close. Then a minor alteration and wham, you are there. Then you are not breaking the bank as well. |

if you search "magura style lever" you see several affordable 'new' ones that are very close. They are chrome, but it is nothing some sanding and spray paint can't fix. |

Actually Moosh, the lever bit was more correctly identified by yourself, if I remember correctly. Adam, did the hard yards on the perch, but his lever was off (and he's not posted a pic of the replacement lever he got yet). knoxvilles_joker wrote: At this point the stuff is so old, half the time, you only find things in museums. As Terran said, there's still plenty of cheap levers on ebay. Perches are a bit more expensive, but you could opt to go with a modern / different brand perch fitting and modify the lever. |

To be fair, I'd still give Adam credit for it as he found out it was a Magura brand, which I didn't even know existed until I saw his post. I just got lucky and found out it was a "short" lever. septic wrote: knoxvilles_joker wrote: At this point the stuff is so old, half the time, you only find things in museums. I did find a seller who has Magura brand levers but they're repros and slightly longer. They come with correct style perches but the listing is for 2, the brake and the clutch. The seller is open to splitting as I did ask recently. I don't know how many are available so that is why I'm refraining from linking. Here's an excerpt from a reply I received: Quote: Measured in a straight line, the blade by itself is 6-1/2"/16cm In the perch with cable adjuster, it measures 8-1/4"/20.5cm Shipping to Canada would be $16 for one lever/perch and $20 for two lever sets. BTW, the actual "vintage" Magura lever blades are polished forged aluminum, not black. We have those as well (we're Magura's biggest USA distributor). Attachment: Pictured above is the CLUTCH lever. The smartgun used the BRAKE lever (thanks Adam!) |

Now I'm curious - what is the difference between the brake lever and the clutch lever? Cheers, Stefan |

Bug Stomper wrote: Now I'm curious - what is the difference between the brake lever and the clutch lever? Cheers, Stefan As Adam pointed out - a small hole on the lever for (I assume) the brake line. You can see in the reference image and on my bent lever, the hole is present on the Magura logo. It could be argued both smartguns used a brake lever (Vasquez) and the clutch lever (Drake) since I haven't really scrutinized Drake's smartgun to verify this theory. |

Not sure if that was the collector's request or simply a courtesy Adam put out there. Side, note, the same guy also has the "tech manual" Pulse rifle. The wooden handle is quite distinctive. He lists it as "production made, but not screen used". I believe that is only half accurate. Parts were def screen used. I believe the main Thompson ser#s have been matched from the tech manual rifle to the primary "ideal 8" rifle featured in the main production photo. With all rifles having been disassembled after filming, then reassembled later, additional parts must have been added. As the reassembled alien 3 rifles show, end results were not exact. However the Thompson itself and probably most parts were very likely screen used. But that is a bit of a tangent. One hard core lucky collector is the point. |

Since reading this thread and Adam’s hero SmartGun build where he did a ton of research and discovered the Magura handle and perch. I’ve been on an obsessive search on eBay for the correct perch and handle. I think I got pretty close and acquired the short handle but not quite the correct perch until now. This one from eBay is from an 86 KTM 350 MXC. It has the two holes in the side as mentioned in Adams post but what I think is really cool is the Magura logo and Made in Germany on the top of the perch. Plus that it came off of a 1986 motorcycle. The short brake handle I bought previously that came from a Huskavarna fits perfectly in this perch. I put them on the SmartGun I got from Matsucorp, replacing the resin one. I love the way it looks now, with real parts on the SmartGun.

I found these Huskavana Shorty brake and clutch levers on eBay the other day. Still in the package. I think this is a pretty good find as it has the part number and package is vintage NOS. One of the levers is definitely a little shorter than the other one in the package and I’m assuming it’s the brake lever.

Nice, what's the length of the two levers (as measured from the centre of mount bolt to tip of ball)? It's [read: I ] estimate that the correct lever is between 120mm-125mm long. |

With my only ruler that has a mm scale, it looks to measure out at 124mm

I removed the short handle I put on my SmartGun and placed it side by side with the one in the package and I was able to get a more accurate measurement and the short handle is 122mm

Great find and top info! Had a look at the stuff too and I noticed one detail that might be interesting (or not ): There are Magura parts that marked with "... W-Germany" as well as parts that are marked "... Germany". The "... Germany" parts were most probably produced after the German reunification (e.g. post 1990). So to be super accurate you'd like parts that are labled "...W-Germany" as Aliens was produced before 1990. Hope this helps. Cheers, Stefan |
