Post subject:  Costume card convention idea
Since we always welcome pictures.

Would it not be a good idea to have a card posted on our body that says free pictures, no need to ask.
Then add a QR code that sends folks to our site alone with our site?

What wording should we use?

Additionally would the QR code alone be good and how would it work scanning a QR code off of a pre taken picture...

Buisness cards with a qr code could work. then you dont have to wait while they fumble with their phone.
Just have to make it a really cool one so they dont just jam it in their pocket. Or if its on our armour it could be on the back and just say" scan this!" in uscm graffitti style. but then wed have people being ninjas behind us all day.

I think that'd be a good idea. My only suggestion is that the Aliens Legacy site needs a mobile version. Not an app (though an app would be cool), but an adjustment so the site is easier to access through a phone. I think that would really help boost interest and viewer traffic. Heck, I thought the site had been defunct until I did a little more exploring.

I am researching things in this regards. I am trying to get through my back log of builds to start up on this. The root canal I just had slowed me down a fair bit until it was done. (had been dealing with agonizing pain off and on for a couple of months.)

Now the kicker with the whole app idea, the forum would most likely have to change and many would agree that would be bad.

There are some forum reader apps out there and if you find a good one post it here for us to all test and see which one rules the coop. This would require not changes to the site and would work from the git go.

All the other sites have become more smart phone friendly. The changes you refer to would be something the entire community would have to agree on. This is not something that is on the table at this point that I am aware of...

They use a different forum software which natively works with mobile devices. Regardless of that any change in that regards needs to be agreed upon as a group whole.

The only thing you would have to watch out for with QR codes is where you get them. The codes on the green business cards still work cause they are not from a subscription service. The ones that do not work on the blue card were from a service with a trial period that has long since lapsed.

My QR codes do not have all the tracking data you get with the subscription ones but for me they got the job done. You scan, you go to the site and you can join. A simple free scanner app is all that is needed to read them and they take you to the appropriate site. I have the QR codes that I used saved. Below is an example of a still functioning code from my first version.

I have always scratched my head at this. I pull the site up on my phone all the time and use it. I run Android. Are you guys seeing a problem with IOS? I use my phone at work and on a tablet at home. I am on my phone now.

I think the QR code on a business card is a great idea. Maybe small 5x8" papers with site info on and the QR code too that can be put on a comic-con table.

I run Android on my phone too and the site changes to fit the screen so not sure what others are seeing.

I would fully support a redesign of the site with regard to appearance to give it a fresh start.

i think the design of this site is starting to age nicely and have that aliens retro-future look. I find it effective like this. could see it being formatted for phone though. i te look at format preserve the history of the group.

The only kicker is why a mobile friendly forum version there would be a few minor quirks that would not be exactly the same but very, very close.

I printed up some business cards using Vistaprint. They have the USCM delta and eagle logo on them and look really nice.

Has a link to the Minnesota Expeditionary Force FB page so people can share photos with me, I give them to anyone who takes my photo.

I think a lapel mounted card holder would be appropriate. Have it say free photos on top or something. Have 10-20 cards as you are walking around and refill as needed.

Have the side showing that has the QR codes

Wheel not reinvented...
