The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

What would you all like to see for background noises for the table at future events?

I have a bluetooth 50W x 2 amplifier that I can stream sound to from my cell phone.

What sound tracks do you prefer from the movies in any of the canon?

What sound effects would be cool to have?

Would any other songs or sound tracks be appropriate. We are talking about the best of the 80s and are trying to gather interest, but not annoy our neighbors.

Some simple ambient synth notes would be cool, just droning atmospheric stuff. someone could easily throw something together in ableton or cubase, protools ect and feather in some movie sfx and maybe insert some rain sounds at some point or Apone yelling something ect.

I did a sample of the atmospheric proceesor background noise and edited it into a loop. But turns out the the general noise level on conventions just neutralized it. :|

When it comes to music: Harry Rabinowitz´s Drum Roll is a must

100%. The marine drum roll. I used to have the file. It wasn't very clean though. For some reason it wasn't on the soundtrack! Shenanigans I tells ya.

But yeah, the drum roll would be very fitting at a fan table.

The unit is plenty loud as it can put out 100 watts. Too quiet or being drowned out is not an issue.

Given Cameron's thought of mirroring the Vietnam conflict, and the USCM were a futurized version of the USMC. And we are trying to add abience:

Is the marine corps hymn appropriate?

I am almost thinking a futurized version would have been written and featured in the movie or cannon but nothing has shown up that I could locate.

Going forward in time do you think some basic training songs/diddlys would be appropriate as well? Those have not changed since they were created and have been around for decades or longer that I am aware of.

I have that track. I can use it, I am just a little flustered as there is not a place we can buy it legitimately and have to rip it instead.

As far as multiple tracks go, you want to vary things so it does not get annoying and mundane over the course of 3 days. Many cosplayers are walking the convention floor for 2 or 3 days non-stop. Varying the tracks that would fit the feel and atmosphere of the universe would draw others that would otherwise not notice us. Plus we want to ensure our neighboring booths do not start to hate the same track getting played over and over again.

Is this a bad line of thinking?

Well i think youre on a good way. But have in mind, even with a good rich playlist of different Aliens Tunes you might get to hate them yourself at one point  3 Days at a con can be very long hearing the same tunes or Sound FX over and over again

Maybe just get in touch with your neighbour fan tables to coordinate your "Theme Music" Times ?

I am throwing in other tunes that would be awesome and fitting in an aliens or predator film such as:

Thriller (Michael Jackson) -- Imagine this playing as the main character discovers the big plot and gets implanted...
No place for a hero (The Heavy) -- You can imagine this as a theme song for the protagonist
Lithium Flower (Yoko Kano) -- You can almost imagine this as a theme song for the Joe's and MUTHR
Foil (Weird Al) -- I thought fitting as there was a real conspiracy
Killer Klowns (The Dickies) -- Imagine a killer death scene at a circus
Radioactive (Imagine Dragons) -- Makes me think of what earth would be like in the comics with the infestation

Listen to any one of those songs and you could imagine any one of them would fit perfectly in a good horror scene in any Aliens or Predator film.

I am definitely open to other suggestions as well.

saw the soundtrack CD on feebay for 8 bucks, couldnt hurt to have that handy. Could also be cool to have the motion tracker sound, or the scene where hudson and vasquez are reading the tracker and hes like "its readin right!"

Just a little thing, you may wish to consider a cheap mp3 player instead of your phone as if a call happens to come through, it may be routed through the bluetooth (the ringing at least). Also, do you leave your phone at the booth when you take breaks? Neither of these are a big deal, but.

I have the more upbeat tracks in the rotation from the film. If it is a quiet track it will not be heard at the con due to all the noise as things get rather busy.

Just keep the suggested snippet requests up as it gives me more fodder on what I need to rip.

I will post the process used to obtain the sounds. It will help for others that want their own sounds.

I'd stay very far away from anything relating to actual military. Personally, I think the movie soundtracks from Alien, Aliens and Predator would be appropriate. Somebody could create a loop of motion tracker beeps, sentry guns/pulse rifles and aliens scuttling/hissing/screeching at intervals.

I was wondering if that might be an approach to take. Given the international nature of things if we favor one military branch or country it can potentially back fire greatly on us as a group.

...Not only that, but the tables ideally should reflect all of the franchise. Not everyone is a fan of the second film and the Colonial Marines. Would be cool to include things from Alien3 and Resurrection. Making a fake laser rig similar to the laser in the General's room that turns the cubed whiskey into liquid would be cool as a table dressing

I will have to rip down the first 2 films to a single audio file and then watch and note exact time markers to extract things with audacity. Then I would have to paste together random pieces to get a nice 10 minute track that could play on a loop or as part of a rotation.
