The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi there!

I‘m looking to buy a Thompson rear grip screw for the M1A1, although I believe there‘s no difference to the screws of the other models. Does anyone have a spare one I could buy?
Thanks in advance!

Cheers!
Roman

Afraid I don't have one, but just in case you were not aware (and assuming this is a real deactivated thompson), I think you need part#500880C.
Have you searched euro websites for that part#? You can get them for like $9 in the US from a couple places, but because they are gun parts, even though they are 'just screws', they still refuse to ship international.

Try searching for "Kahr Arms". They make the modern M1A1s and call that part# "27-42". They might have a better international presence than the 'used gun parts' guys.

Also, Is keeping it original the main thing? If not, I bet you could get a close match for under $2 from a local hardware store.
Just need the thread-pitch and length to match up a replacement. I believe the thread pitch was "14-24" (aka".242-24", but most def NOT the "1/4-24"). I am not sure how common 14-24 threaded bolts are though.

Hi there!
Thanks for your reply.
Yeah, too bad about not shipping the screws internationally. Is that a new law in place? I remember two years ago I could buy all sorts of gun parts as long as it eas just screws and springs...

Oh well, I managed to find two screws for sale and got them both.
Now, the weird thing is, they‘re not the same length...

Image

Top and bottom are from a set of Thompson screws (labelled "Thompson 1928 M1"). The top one seems to be a screw for the front vertical grip.
The middle one is a separate "Thompson SMG rear grip screw", but length-wise, it matches the vertical grip screw. The head seems larger though...

Can you enlighten me?

Cheers!

After some (incomplete) research on the internet, I'm actually starting to believe that it's the bottom screw that is for the vertical grip, that the top one is the rear grip screw and the center one seems to be a reproduction grip screw...
Will continue my research, any help appreciated!

Cheers!

Wow, that would be great!

Here's the measurements of the ones I have:

Top:
Overall length: 11.6mm / 4.56"
Head (from bottom of the screw head to top of the "dome"): 4mm / 0.16"

Middle:
Overall length: 11.9mm / 4.68"
Head (from bottom of the screw head to top of the "dome"): 6mm / 0.23"

Bottom:
Overall length: 12.7mm / 5"
Head (from bottom of the screw head to top of the "dome"): 7mm / 0.28"

Thank you very much!

Cheers!

Thank you very much!
After re-measuring my screws with a digital caliper, I can confirm that the middle one of my screws matches all measurements almost exactly.
So it seems that my "Thompson SMG rear grip screw" in fact is from an M1A1, and the set labelled "Thompson 1928 M1" seems to be from a different Thompson model.
Thanks very much for the information!

I guess this topic can be moved from the Base PX to the Pulse Rifle archives, if deemed worthy. :D

Cheers!
