Still think that both Operators had different mount plates.
If you have the size of the shoulder lamp this picture gives you a good indication of shape and size.

Hello all, Would like some help in referencing the metal piece that hangs off the shoulder of the smart Gunner that holds the lamp in place. Ive tried looking at a lot of pics but its not really clear or always at an angle. Would like to see how its attached to the Vest and possible the size of the platform so maybe I can try an fabricate one. Thanks all |

What I did with mine was just attach it directly to the steadicam strap. I used a soldering iron to burn holes in the nylon strap, then threaded bolts through the holes to fasten the shoulder lamp to the strap. I used washers on the underside of the strap to ensure the bolts did not slide back through the hole if the fabric stretched out. There is enough padding on the strap that it sits on my back comfortably. |

I thought about that but i really didnt want to damage the vest in case i wanted to sell it in the futureand also be able to remove the Lamp if i wanted to transfer it to a different build. 577_ops wrote: Still think that both Operators had different mount plates. So i guess since you are saying both operators had 2 different types of mounts then there really is no cannon as long as there is some type of mount kinda similar? |

Here is what I have come up so far, it would slip between the straps on the shoulder via Velcro and hold the lamp that way

No. What you are seeing there is the bolt that went through the middle of the scuba lamp HANDLE as an upper attachment point, the lamp is on the far side of the handle in the photo. |

Check out Harry Harris Archive for pictures of the shoulder lamp. It was connected to the mount plate via one of the standard brakets and as written via a screw going to the handle of the lamp. If you consider the size of the standard shoulder lamp braket (at the bottom of the alram box, no braket on the side) you have further details on the size of the mount plate. |

I know Chef and Kat Ord from Reel Icons have smart gunner rigs, not sure what pics I have of them though. I'll have a look through my files see what I can see. |

Here we go, I believe this Smart gunner rig was built by Chef and Caramac (Rob and James) from Chef's Creations and is currently used by Kat Ord from Reel Icons. The bottom of the lamp just uses the standard fixing as used on the regular marine armour. But, as you can see from the pic, the top of the lamp is secured by a bit of threaded bar and some nuts that go through the lamp handle. Now, I have no idea if this was how they did it in the film, but this was how Chef and company solved the problem for their rig.
