The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I am a member of a Vietnam living history group, and a collector of Vietnam equipment, and ever since seeing the still of Hicks's boot I have suspected something, the Marines do NOT wear Vietnam era boots, this has now been confirmed because on Facebook, Doug produced some pics of his film used boots (pics not used here) and they are actually South Korean repro boots, in the Hicks pic you can see 1, a squarer heel, the genuine boots have a slight curve. 2, a raised area on the insole, genuine are flat, 3, a coarser nylon weave. the other pics I have included here are of a random pair of the South Korean boots that show the differences, it doesn't matter much I guess but this is just for completeness of information

When this topic first popped up, I began a 3 year search for Repro boots with the Vabrim soles. Almost all the repros have the panama soles.

Finally found these and keep them in a display with my gear (the ones I wear at events are real deal, because you know, actual comfort).
I don't know if they are south korean, but I know it took a loooooonng time to find them. No marking or branding of any kind.

Hmm, I'd not be surprised if it was a mix of genuine & repros across the squad ... all depends on what was available at the time. The wardrobe guys wouldn't have been too fussed (on this detail), I don't think.

I'm not following in the pics but that's nothing new
these have Vibram soles and are allegedly 1967 dated, are you saying the leather heel cup in the back is too curved?

Notice the first example of korean repros in top post has the drain vents way far forward.

I coincidentally found a pair of repro boots this week. my previous originals were size 11N. The repros are 11W.
Ive added gel insoles to both. The repros have thinner leather and are more comfortable. They have no stamps. They have a ridge in the arch portion of the sole with the size in the center.Theyre Brown rather then Green. The sole material feels slightly softer. Real ones weigh about 2oz more.
I wore them all day in the rain and mud and I love them. Sorry about the mud in the photos.

Each actor probably had more than one set of boots and were undoubtedly acquired by raiding all the military surplus shops in the area of Pinewood studios, there likely was a mixture of real and repro boots of various origin used in the production, so it depends which actor and which set of boots they had on in any particular scene.

This goes back to how true to the story line or movie do you want to be. I say the most important part is having boots that are comfortable and work for you and what you are happy with.

Regardless this is some great information and some great comparisons. Please keep contributing.
