The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So I did a quick search for "how to post images" and this came up: http://forum.alienslegacy.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17342 - the search facility, like Google, is your friend.

Like my m39 that did incorperate some plastic parts on a foam body, I have now started a 'mixed media' pulse rifle.

The 'guts' of it will be a hollow plastic thompson with a poplar dowel rod through it. I think I can screw some metal eyelets into the wood so I can attach a sling. I will build the foam up around everything and hopefully end up with something light weight yet durable (while hopefully being good looking yet squishy!).

Very early stages.

If I may add a little tidbit from my experience with foam, get the sharpest knife you can and either sharpen it often or straight up change blades (if you're using a box cutter or a surgical blade with inserts). Sharp blade will cut even dense .5" foam with no burrs and in one go.

Other than that, I love seeing these kind of props being done. Foam can take a lot of careless use/abuse when sealed and covered in flexible paint, that's why it was my material of choice for some armor builds (non-Alien stuff, unfortunately)

OK, trying to get back into the building saddle!

Started a Foam/hybrid parts pulse build. Got the core done, now time to make it look pretty!

Ok, just realized my last update was essentially the same one as nearly 3 years ago! Wowza.

So here is an actual update. These are thin foam exteriors 'wraps' I'll be using to make it all pretty

Yes I did, but it isn't as hard as you might imagine. I used an old fashioned 'hole punch' to knock out the front and back of each slot. Just needed a razor blade to trim away the middle.

I did my first test run of the contact cement last. The bond isn't as 'instant' as I would hope, but it was pretty strong so now the real construction can begin.
