The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

What sort of rank insignia do you put on your BDU's? Obviously, modern US insignia won't do the trick. Law enforcement patches look the closest...

I /we believe they used WW2 style US army ranking system/patches. Gold on black

Ranks taken from PC roster match this system perfectly.

Per screen accuracy:
Privates - No insignia (see Frost, Crowe, and Ski. Drake had no sleeves anyways, but would not have had anything)
PFCs - single chevron on left arm (as seen on Spunkmeyer and Hudson's sleeve partially covered by roll. Vaz would presumably have had one if she had sleeves)
Corperals - double chevron on left sleeve (as seen on Ferro and Dietrich. Hicks presumably had one, but was not visible with high sleeve roll)
Master Seargent - Left sleeve as seen on Apone.

On a related note, regarding the "Delta" insignia vs. the Ship patch on the left breast pocket, screen accuracy indicates that Privates and PFCs wear the ship patch. Corporals and Sergeants wear the delta.

It's Vietnam era US Army ranks for the BDU's. and WWII ranks for the Svc C's, but no technical trade ranks.

*buck privates
*corporals
*master sergeants

Ranks are only capitalized when addressing an actual person, not referring to only the rank.

Kind of both right. Technically speaking, pre May 1968, a PFC patch looks as it does on the WW2 chart and as seen on Hudson's uniform in the continuity shots.

Post May 1968, a PFC patch would have looked like this, meaning no longer screen accurate.

Being that the change occurred right before the peak of Vietnam, I think it is fair to say that as long as everyone agrees to toss out the 'technicians'/'specialists', either ww2 or early Vietnam ranks would be accurate. Late or post-Vietnam would not be.

The "dress green" PV2 rank is the same as the old PFC rank.
