The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello,
I´m building a smartgun from wood, pvc pipe and some metal parts. I printed a mg42 blueprint to lifesize and glued it to a wooden beam. With a bandsaw I cut it to te right dimensions. Then I routed the slots and sanded the edges with a beltsander. It´s not a 100% accurate but I want to have it finished for a comic con this weekend. Initially I was considering using the AGM airsoft MG42 as a base. But it think this turned out alright for a first attempt. After primer I´ll spray it black (should I use gloss or flat black? ) and some silver for weathering. The pictures and buildtopics from other users were really helpfull.

and some more pics. A ¨pca ikelite¨ torch has a goodenough shape for the headsetcamera. Here it is with a kodak lens cap glued on.
I have sourced most of the real parts for an accurate headset, but this will do for my first convention.
I saw that some users have created really nice eyepieces and cameraś so I will look into that. Any critique is welcome. Cheers,

Can you post the template file you used?

Do you have a list of items you purchased to build it this way?

Some may find the answers helpful if they want to do it themselves.

That looks fantastic well done! I would also be very interested in the blueprints as by lad wants to be a smartgunner at cons next year and i could scale it down in size.

Great scratchbuild! What's the total weight on that?

I like that way much better than the "real" deal.., so much pain to see those iconic weapon, the MG42, get destroyed with motor cycle parts...!

I'm building mine from an all metal airsoft and the only "permanent" mod I've had to do was drill a 1/8" hole in the barrel shroud. It can still go 100% back to factory. If the "real deal" is anything close, no destruction needed. :xeno:

That's why Yugoslavia blessed us with the MG53!

Great build! Reminds me of the wood smartgun once offered by a company in England over a decade ago.

I have a working Yugo, and was planning on making a blank-firing smartgun [one day] but damn if 8mm blank isn't a PitA.

Hi all, thanks you for all your messages. I've been busy these last days finishing the smartgun and attending my first convention.

Wooden smartgun specs:
weight 4.5 kilograms including bracket (excluding arm and vest)
length 1.28 meter

ingredients for cooking one up yourself
-one wooden beam 200*15*5.5 centimeter is plenty
-a piece of wood big enough for the footpeg hangers (unless of course you can find the real deal, I'm still searching)
-two dvd spindels for the ammo drum (mine even had open-lock embossed letters)
-pvc pipe coupling for the nozzle ( I believe 40 mm)
-22mm radiator/cv pipe for the handles
-three bicycle foam handles + endcaps (the fit the 22 mm pipe just right so that was Lucky)
-one courner of a flexible plastic trash can for the handle guard
-some perspex or metal plate for the ammo drum cover
-lots of bolts and screws (mostly 6-8 mm, mostly)
-resin or expoy to fill in screw/bolt holes (I didn't have bondo or woodfiller at hand)
-1:1 blueprints from a mg 42, kwasaki ar 125 foot hanger rest pegs, and smartgun blueprints (see the link below)
-(motor)cyle brakelever and cable + hook and spring for tension)
-kawasaki steercontroller ( I found the correct type thanks to this forum)
-window handgrip opener and metal pipe for the cocking lever (had to do some metal cutting on the bandsaw, bolted together and filled with resin.
-found metal objects (some kind of latch as the aimpoint, and another part on the left side behind the ammodrum to beefen it up.
-woodglue
-black spraypaint
-graphite powder (for metallic sheen on the nozzle)
-sealer/ lacquer spray
-stickers made up in paint (i choose for 132 rounds left and the colour green for the counter) a future update would be a real counter.
-rubber eyepiece from thriftstore and ikelite torch + real beyer dynamic headset + wooden parts form the headset) still on the lookout for smartcam eyepiece and megatron scope parts)

The stand is from a vogel audo speaker, shortenend. and spraypainted "fosco" olive drab.

Tools used:
caliper (very useful)
beltsander & bandsaw couldn't have made it without.
drillpres, handdrill
forstnerbits
speeddrilbits 22 mm (the correct size as the cv pipe for a snug fut
various handtools.

total building time: two weeks.

I made it as placeholder until I could get my hands on a airsoft version, but i found out that the rules at the comic con were very strict. absolutely no (converted) airsoft
let alone a deactivated mg53. I was told that my replica was only just acceptable, any more real and it would have been confiscated. So wood was a smart choice for cons.
In combination with the vest and arm it was no problem to carry 8 hours straight, so the concept really works.

Here are some pics of the buildingproces, the rest can be seen at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/153516720@N07

and the blue prints, so that they are preserved on this forum, should i delete my flickr account.
Please note, I did not make the mg42 blueprints, they come from blueprintbox.com . I just modified them for 100% printing.

This build is incredible! please keep the pics coming as I'll be keeping an eye on this. Would you consider attempting a flamethrower too? I'd really love to see that!!

thanks all,
geo71; a flamethrower, thats a good idea, the basic shape isn that hard to make from wood, plastic tube, a funnel, and some sheet metal. the rest of the photos are in my flickt account (see the link in my previous post above) I somehow think of a supersoaker watergun when i see it.

Moloch, the counterweight is a 40mm plastic pipe connector with wooden plugs on both ends. I later saw a doorstopper (metal) whichwould ad some more metal parts and weight to the gun, but it was to big.
