In the opening scene of the 1980 Flash Gordon movie Flash opens his car window and it is the same sound effect as the PowerLoader moving its arms. Pretty funny.

I think the door-closing sounds in Aliens are stock effects as well. Also when the Dropship crashes into the Atmosphere Processing Station you see a large, thin piece of wreckage tumble towards camera that's accompanied by a sound that I've heard before, I think in the film 'Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun'. It sounds like it's probably a piece of scaffolding tube being thrown across a hard floor.

There are stock sound effect records out there. When I worked at the ad agency we went nuts when we found some 20 year old vinyl records with sound effect tracks.

Honestly if we could have a good recorded chat with a sound effects engineer that worked on the films that would be awesome.

Thanks guys, that all makes sense.

I would love to hear interviews with anyone that worked on the film. Sound designers, set dressers, even the tea cart lady would be great for stories about the production.

There's a creaky gate/door sound effect that always leaps out at me when I hear it in a movie!
The other memorable one is the "Laser beam/forcefield" sound effect from the old Hanna Barbera cartoons...

Kelly's Heroes, the sound of the Tank turrets swivelling round during the end skirmish was the same effect too!

The sound effects can be stock ones. Back at that time they were on vinyl records and other storage mediums and transferred to the films through various processes.

Ran into a set of vinyl sound effects at an ad agency I worked at many moons ago and some folks got rather excited over the retro factor...

There are a lot of stock sound effects that turn up in multiple films.

I've seen several movies where someone is in a hospital and in the background you hear "Dr Davis, Dr Davis, telephone please" over the tannoy. (also used at the start of Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime" album).

Plus, how many films have you heard this distictive scream in?

I still wish we knew how to create new high quality pulse rifle sounds.

True true - that seems to be a difficult sound to make: even the Pulse-Rifle in "Ready Player One" didn't sound right. But it was great to see it all the same. :)

Great share. The terms are basically personal, non profit uses only. Do not make it appear as if you have a relationship with BBC or make BBC less. No use for hate/inflamatory communications. In general apply the general rule and under no circumstances resell and charge for the content. I think that is the simplest way to put it. Correct me if I am wrong, please.
