Dont drive yourself too crazy with the badge placement, Ferro and Spunkmeyer have it in different places on their left torso
Chef creations is a good source for replica Racal headsets, VP70 and holster.
At the end of the day though, this is about what you want to do with it. And whatever you do should make you happy.
Well put. I usually add make any inaccurate thing or issue with the costume yours, give a back story. Make it YOURS. Doing that is what makes cosplay fun. Too big for one of those skimpy costumes, just give some funny story about how the dry cleaner shrunk the suit on you.
If you want a really fun conversation find a local fighter pilot and ask for their opinion on what it should look like. You could do the same with a cold war or vietnam historian as well. Learning in cosplay is as much if not more fun than building and wearing the costume itself. That knowledge helps you explain things in a far greater depth than you could have before.
Short answer is just make it fun, YOUR way. We are not here to judge, but to encourage.
