Post subject:  Looking for help with Smart gun head set
Hi,

Does anyone know or have pics of how the camera body, Olympus t28, and the headset are all assembled and fit together? Can not find a good pic to save my life. Do you need to fabricate some sort of back plate to make this work? Any help would be appreciated.

I built a headset from scratch using the T28. I sort of made a back plate using some PVC. It was some flattened 2" pipe (heat gun to make it soft) and cut the notch for the T28 to fit in. When you add the other greeblies there is plenty to 'grip' on to with epoxy. I also used some thin plastruct sheet to cover the flash/glass side and even things out to glue down the cheek pieces. So the plastruct was kind of a backing plate as well.

This was the rough test fit. I ended up cutting out the area under the T28 in that photo. It was too thick just sitting on top of it like that.

Thanks guys.

As for the headset, I used screws drilled through the headset. I pealed back the foam on the inside of the temple area, drilled out a hole, planted a screw, and then replaced the temple padding. Its all pretty strong and hidden.

Thanks to everyone's help I got that piece sorted. Now wondering if anyone had detailed the inside of the eye cup. Has anyone added any LEDs, working screen, or even a nice paint job. Looking for some ideas as it seems a little bland as is.

I ran 2 wires up into the eye cup when I added the coiled cable. Once I track down an xlr connector, I would be able to supply power for LEDs.

Anyone have any ideas or a lead on an xlr connector?

I had an idea on how to finish the inside... It's not fleshed out yet, just an idea but I'd be interested to see how others might attempt it.

Periscope, 2 mirrors that redirect your vision a very short distance. Might be impossible on a full real parts build but with a scratch build, a good place would be down the arm of the eye cup and out the square hole where the Megatron scope peers through with added screws. It would be a very low cost simulated screen.

I thought about taking the graphic that's seen in the Colonial Marine tech manual, printing it out and affixing it to the inside of the eyecup on my headset, but never got around to it.

Moosh, that is a great idea for a low tech way to have a pretty cool effect. I may pursue a more lighted approach.

Bob, that was what my first thought was also. perhaps print out on clear film and backlight with some EL.
