I am in the process of repainting my armor and I bought a look alike roll of sleep padding.

My question is, what's the best way to cut the foam to fit the armor? Free hand it, trace the armor parts? I am going to share what's left of my roll with a friend for his suit and I wanna give him as much as I can.

When i pad my armour in the near future i will be tracing around what armour parts i can straight onto padding but as its still strapped up im gonna use cardboard templates too.
Depending on the width of your foam it could possibly be split down the middle so you could have twice as much. The dutch army roll i have ready is 18mm thick so i will have to split mine!

I only use the padding for the shoulder bells and knee parts.

I mark each piece onto the bed roll and then cut them out that way your going to get a perfect fit of each part, and there is basically no waistage hope that helps.

Do you trace the outside of the armor onto the foam or tuck the full to the inside of the armor and then trace?

Like this I take one certain piece, place it on the mat and draw around it,then I just cut it out.

As I recall, I pushed the new foam into the armor, traced around the putside edges, then trimmed to fit,
using the new foam piece as a template to make the second one.

I got a roll of the accurate old stock military padding... and it was quite thick, so I
used an electric turkey carving knife to shape and then thin it.

I also used the contact adhesive (that you brush on each part, wait a
few minutes and then stick them togeather) to mount it to the armor.

Exactly that’s the way I do to.
