The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey all
I'm new to the forum so firstly hello everyone.
I am looking into breaking into the costume side of the Alien franchise. Being recently made redundant means I sadly can't afford a Colonial Marine outfit anytime soon but that doesn't mean I can't go for something a little bit low budget. I was wondering if anyone here has done any scientists, colonists, engineers, etc. costumes and if so would you be willing to post a pic or 2 as inspiration for myself. I would be thankful if you did.
Cheers.

Welcome to the Aliens Legacy!

You could go for 'Weyland Yutani Lab Technician', which is pretty much a white lab coat and a (home made) W-Y ID badge. Back in 2014 we did a live 'Alien Encounter' at the National Space Centre in Leicester; you can see some of the Lab Tech actors in this video.

I've been studying the costumes worn in the original Alien. Looks like they're based on white combat trousers, trainers and shirt along with an old RAF cold weather jacket, though some crew wore jumpsuits. The weapon (other than the flame unit) is pretty much the same as the Star Wars SE14 blaster with a single point sight fixed to the bottom of the magazine well.
A dropship pilot is a good place to start on a budget as well. A flight suit with some patches ought to do.
Don't forget that we don't require costumes to be screen accurate.

There is always bishop I believe his costume is an old UK police riot jump suit.

Not screen accurate but you can bang together a Marine costume without spending a fortune.

My first USCM costume in the 1990s was an old Army uniform with USCM patches attached with hot glue.

Up until I got my gear I used to attend cons wearing camo pants, an OD t-shirt, and a green "Ranger" vest with USCM patches on it carrying a painted Nerf Longshot.

Eventually I replaced the Nerf with a Spulse rifle, and after another couple of years added Spat armor.

You can build a great kit without paying for it all at once!

Thank you for all the suggestions / advice. I appreciate it. I think at present I will most likely aim for a colonist engineer outfit, Weyland scientist or maybe something from the original Alien. Cheers all.
