Post subject:  The Great Repaint
A friend sent me a Bess Brown clone, so I am playing around a bit. On its own it looked too brown, so I am doing a thin coat over olive drab paint, and then with a dusting of black spraypaint. I'm using my SD Studios locator tube as a color guide.

Here's a shot in daylight just after painting:

The color shift is dramatic, but in both cases it matches up with the locator tube.

My BB painting is a bit mottled, and my black dusting is a bit speckled, but I'm pretty happy with the results!

I am also doing a complete repaint of all my armour using a more accurate set of colors. Photos coming soon.

I did valspar flat black on my functional motion tracker. Where did you get this paint?

I was going to paint my armor with liquitex acrylic latex, but that looks better...

As far as I can tell this was a "home brew" probably made at the UK equivalent of Home Depot. If you'd like, I can send you an index card with a 1x1" section painted. Of you thought it looked good you could take that and get it matched and mixed.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, I'll take some better shots when the repaint is all done.

Here's most of what I've gotten done so far, minus a few belt tools and the helmet cameras, etc.

These are the next three big ones to tackle. The PR actually has to be taped off and sprayed Olive Drab first which is a bit of a pain, but it is important to have the green undercoat to get the right finish. I'm really excited to have some uniformity with the color scheme in my arsenal when this is all done!

I have just one more Pulse Rifle to paint and I'll be done with the weaponry. I'm fixing a few parts of my Dropship helmet before repainting, so that will take a little longer.

So the armour on the right is my plastic set, and shows the color scheme I used on *all* my armour. The set on the left is my metal set and is halfway repainted. I've fixed the base coat green and the dark brown. My tan may be fine but I still need to fix the dark green. The helmet has had the base green repainted but still needs the rest. It is a massive undertaking but the end result (even before weathering) is making me really happy.

From Lowe's look for 3010-10 Swiss Chocolate.

I got sample jars for all these colors (about $3 each) so this whole repaint is extremely affordable.

Based on Bigbisont's color matching I went with this:

base coat green - "Behr" (home depot) brand: "North Woods 410-7"

It is a real game changer.

If you don't mind me asking, is there anything equivalent as far as hardware stores go there? Are there super center type stores like there are here?

We have d.i.y superstores here yeah. Im not sure how similar they would be to yours though.

Thanks retrogarde. I think i will take a trip around the superstores and see if i can find anything similar but if not i may take you up on that offer!

Here's my breastplate done up in the new range of colors, and weathered with grate polish. I'm a lot happier with this form of weathering (I used to use charcoal) as the end result can be manipulated with a wet paper towel pretty easily.

So that was my first major hurdle. I still need to finish the plates on the ab pad, the ear defender and lobster plates on my primary helmet, and then my greaves. After that I will start in on my secondary set and various other bits so that it all eventually matches.

I still need to fix the greaves, but this pretty much sums up both my progress and *why* this repaint was needed. I am infinitely happier with this paint job.

That is awesome! It is like someone was messing with the contrast or using a funky filter on the left and the right one was plucked off the screen.
