The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Planning a new short film - is such a patch combination possible? What do you think? Maybe a Colonial Marine working on a Weyland-Yutani base?

I personally think the two are separate entities, but that's just my opinion. I also personally loath that the WY logo is constantly being slapped on everything related to the USCM.

I could concede that WY makes a lot of the weapons, but that's all they are, a company that makes stuff.
They do not own and run the military.

I like the uniform with they WY patch as a private contractor. I also agree the direct mixing of WY and USCM is a little too 'in your face'.

While the expanded universe stuff has often hinted WY heavily influences the actions of the USCM, to directly tie the two together publicly seems like an unrealistic corporate decision. The bad PR and blowback from the public would hurt their brand. Not worth it when they can just hire their own security made up of ex-marines without any pushback.

Okay - no mixing, a WEYLAND YUTANI SECURITY UNIT or A MARINE - another question: what is the youngest realistic age a "Lieutenant colonel" could have "to reach this rank"? Is the age of 35 for this rank possible?

Google indicates 'half' the lieutenant colonels are promoted 'naturally' by age 45. The other half achieve that rank much later at the end of their careers.
A wunderkind could reach it by 35, maybe.

Thx for the info! Are Lieutenant colonel still active as armed marine at the frontline... or is this rank too high to be part of an outerspace mission?

I would think that rank too high for combat missions.

Awesome news that you're making a new short film! Another episode of Last Flight of the Freya 7 is in the works too. Good times!

I was in armoured and our LtCol had his own Tank. He wasn't quite on the front line but he wasn't that far behind either, definetly the same battlefield, so depending on the situation you are portraying not totally unrealistic that a CO could be caught out if he was a glory hound.

First SPOILER: The short is going to be a PREDATOR vs. Colonial Marine movie....and I need a strong man in the age of 35 who has a high rank and a lot of expertise to be able to hunt the predator as no one else before....cause the man is a born soldier/marine! And I love the pins on the shirt collar - but maybe it is too unrealistic if such a young man has such a high rank...

I second that, I think when the wey-yu logo is spotted subtly around something thats going on it sort off speaks to that conspiracy theory. As if the corporation is so rich and big that it pulls the strings in govt. and its just something that people suspect. wey yu in the movies seemed like something where you see the name in the tiny fine print on some work order and go "hmmmmmmm, something fishy goin on here?"

in alien resurection special edition they even say wey-yu was "bought out by wal-mart" which suggest that same kind of corporate influence vibe. In alien 3 we see that white suited soldier ,"wey-yu" soldier, but even that may just be a mercenary. wearing a white suit... so maybe it suggests a lab environment, like these guys defend lab operations, metal face grill to protect from facehuggers and thick acid proof armor.

But I like to think that wey-yu has no public affiliation to the working military staff. that they just picked up the phone and said " give us some expendable grunts", and they had that kind of pull in govt. Hudson cause he was getting out soon anyway, hicks because he was too smart and had no other ties or family and was a "lifer" and so on.

I could imagine though, the same military armor with a different paint scheme, completely labeled as a wey-yu soldier.
maybe the armor is just solid green with a big serial number on the chest plate and some non lethal shock weapon.

just my two cents, that was long winded, sorry.
