I started another set of m3 armour for another fellow board member here, not to much to show at the moment but I'm getting there. The front and back are done and I'll be getting started on the shoulders connectors and pauldrons tomorrow and get the lines done on the front plate.

The strapping and shoulder connectors are done and the kidney plate is atached, just need to get the shoulder bells finished and connected.

I'd love to hear more about how you are making these. Assuming you are just using hand tools, no english wheels? I have a little experience with car body panel fabrication, but the indentations and curvature required here is much more complex. |

Hallo Well if you work with car bodies then you'll know how time consuming this can be, to make a full set of M3 armour it takes me using the old fashioned methods about two to three months because I don't always have time due to my normal day job. If I use machines it takes me roughly three to four weeks to complete a set. I use an old wooden tree stump witch I dished out and smoothed down this is what I use mostly for the back armour especially for the shoulder curvatures. As for the indentation I use a chisel which is curved a little but always moving the chisel towards me whilst tapping gently this way you can get really straight lines. To smooth out the lines I use a beading machine but just to smooth things out a little. I know this is cheating a little but I only do this as a hobby and every piece that I do the quality is getting better; learn by doing. The rest is just time and patience using different techniques to tribe out the main form for the Breast plate and then it's just a matter of getting all the little dents out which is caused by tribbing the metal and then just smoothing it all down using a polishing wheel, this sounds all so easy but believe me it's not, but it's great fun and it's my way of relaxing after a hard days work. But if someone needs something quick then I will use sometimes the English wheel to get things done faster but I mostly like doing it the old fashion way like my grandfather did. But because I live in a private house and my landlord lives in the same house I can't go banging around on Metal all the time, that's why I mostly do things in the garden from a friend of mine where most of my tools are. This way I'm not disturbing anyone. |

Well I've got the main armor done and built up for Christian it's just a matter of getting his helmet finished. This is such fun and a great joy to know your making someone you've never met happy, thats worth more to me than all the money in the world.

I'm on the final stage the helmet,I've got all the main parts attached i just need to get the IR Sight put in and the camera which needs a little work done to it but then it's all finished:)
