Hello comrades,

does anyone have tried before to create/design a backpack which fits on the M3 armour? Maybe designed with a "cavity" for the lamp clamp?

Maybe we could brain storm a little bit to design such a USCM backpack :)?

Maybe we have to work with moveable clamps/brackets on the back of the backpack to that one backpack fits to all individual and unique M3 armours :)!

An idea could be that technique:

The buttstraps on the front of this backpack have to be on the back of the uscm backpack - so everyone can place his clamps/brackets individual to fit on his armour

Bit weird but i think it was stated to clip onto the armour brackets, yeah. I quite liked the idea of it mounting low-down to leave the shoulder lamp free.

Yes, this would be also a good idea and much more easy to create - a backpack which is placed under the lamp - ideas please ;)!

We've talked about this in the past.

I think it is a good idea, especially linking to the armor brackets.

Not a big fan of some of the stuff in the technical manual...


I'm probably the only backpack designer on the board.

Yes, I also think, that you are the only backback designer here!

I was thinking of a backpack design inspired by the gas-mask bag which is used by Ripley in the end of the movie... :)

I will be watching this Thread with wide Open eyes,One thing i can say is i'm planning on Doing some sort Aluminium Rucksack for my WY armour.

Some form of hard case would look awesome!
But a cheaper option is gonna be something fabric. Just spit-ballin 2 ideas:

#1 - cross-shoulder like a go-bag (then it should sit next to / out of the way of the shoulder lamp).

#2 - modding an Alice frame / similar to mount onto the armour brackets. Some of these frames might work [?]

What about a pack that is lower and sits just below the lamp. We can't use MOLLE loops in the design.

Another possible is the old British pattern 58 webbing backpack. Used it in training and think it could be a contender for your short list. It predates the molle system by a few years and only comes in good ole olive drab.

I'm in favor of 1986-era tech, or fabricating something that matches either the belt pouches, ammo bag or padded VP-70 holster. That way it would be a seamless addition to the Marine loadout.

a good 80's tech option to work from would be a medium 'alice' pack, they came with a solid frame that would be good for adaptation to the mounts, or if you wanted a canvas ruck to match the canvas webbing and pouches, a Vietnam period 'ARVN' ruck comes with a metal 'X' frame.

One cool option would be to customize a hard-shell backpack to match the armor.

ETA: I like this one, which is actually a case for the Hubsan drone. Not as expensive as other hardshell backpacks, and IMHO really looks the part.

I am not a friend of hard shell backpacks - I'll try the next weeks to buy an old vietnam style backpack to try how to put it on the armour!

burner, look for a 'medium alice pack' the Vietnam era rucks are expensive and very very collectable! the alice pack is very similar to Nam rucks but a lot cheaper

Wot he said + yes please!
As a Vietnam re-enactor, cutting up a Nam-era ruck would make me cry :(

Also, if you not sure, getting just an Alice pack frame [from eBay, etc] is pretty damn cheap. Then you can cut it up and see how it sits without having spent too much on the experiment. Of course there are cons to this idea too; it can be an arse to find just the pack later [without the frame] ... dunno, worth checking out I reckon.

I've been thinking of having a small pack that mounts to the M3's back brackets. I've yet to get my armor so I have no clue if that's feasible but its a cool idea. I think an ALICE or a Patt. 58 pack is good. Changing the attachments to plastic buckles and the removal of the middle pouch on the ALICE could spruce it up. Perhaps an LED counter to show how much the contents weigh to make them future-y? :lol:

One point I'll make is that you don't want this to sit too low down, especially if you're loading it heavily. Low-slung weight will make your spine scream and your lumbar will punish you for the rest of your natural life!!

In real life, how u pick something up back there without help?
I have an Alice backpack in medium and large, and both don't fit the back of the armour, no way, and the frame is made of aluminum, so he need to be heavily modified, and I don't think that will help to fit it back there.
It's just stupid to put weight down there where the brackets are mounted, it will hurt your back a lot after a short time....
If you just want an small useless backback, go for an ALICE Backback for the belt remove the ALICE clips and modify the backpack with an small frame to cooperate with the brackets of the armour, and always have a buddy with u to reach it... :-)
