We really need to get a group github respository set for this stuff. We have Ian Bremner and his setup, Sean Maio and his smartgun setup, and you. I will be getting a codebase built for a predator gauntlet at some point here soon.

ok, i've not documented everything yet (most specifically the hardware wiring) but you can find the code and raspberry pi install instructions here. I'll be adding the hardware install instructions later.

Good work :-)

It looks like you have pin 9 labelled as pin 7 on the compass wiring picture.

I am giving this all a go. Thank you for being one of the few prop building humans alive who actually update and document their work. I am terrible about it myself so please know you are appreciated.

Just post or message here if you have issues. One of the techies in the group will do our best to try and address the issue with you as you work through things.

good luck. one thing i would try and make sure of is versioning of rasbian. I did it for Jessie and haven't updated it for later versions. I think you can still get hold of Jessie but if not i can probably dig out an image file.

The setup should work regardless of raspbian version. TFT, gyroscope, and audio output options should work regardless. Circuit Python has been merged with micro python and C## has actually been copying python as python attempted to copy its functionality.

If you have any issues or errors, please, feel free to post. I have no issues doing a remote session to try and help with the problem with you as the process is worked through.

You folks are amazing thank you!

I am going to use a 3+. That's the biggest difference I can think of. Definitely going to house everything in the Kango with one of those little fans on top.

it might be a tight squeeze. I remember struggling with the pi zero but then again i used a power bank to allow recharging so that took up some space. My original plan was to house all of it within the hama viewer which was possible with the zero but it was a real pain to have to open it up to get batteries out etc.

I glued a hdmi charging point beneath the handle where the drill cable used to go.

On a resin unit only a pi zero w will fit.

I am going to add some info to martinr1000's for anyone who wants to do this over Putty. (Logging into it via windows or mac instead of using the PI desktop)

Assuming I get this to work because I am a code basher and not too good at Python.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh and it seems like this should NOT be done via SSH as you have to use leafpad which is a gui application.

Author:  EvanDallas [ Thu Oct 14, 2021 4:54 pm ]
Post subject:

Apparently Leafpad isn't installed with the current rpi image.
So if anyone comes across this post...here is how you get it.

You want to use this on line 17 on martins amazing guide.

https://github.com/martinr1000/AliensMo ... nstall.txt

Quote:
sudo apt-get install leafpad

This isn't anything he missed, this is simply the nature of what comes available on ready to go software packages over time.

Hey. You dont need to use leafpad. I did because i felt moe comfortable with it. Any text editor will do but you still might need to sudo some of the config files. Not sure tbh

Note

FRAME BUFFER COPY area on Martins tracker install.txt
If you have a raspberry pi 3 it doesn't come with cmake or make so run the below code before you do this section as I am not sure upgrade install covers it.

Quote:
sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake

My apologies if I am cluttering this thread. If its not best to post here I will fork your file on github.

I did have to use sudo. I couldn't be bothered to figure out why so I just did it to get it done.

Use vi or vim or another text based. Gui editors can add unnecessary fluff to files.

First, what are you trying to do?

Second: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=228532
See if that helps

Third if you are trying to autostart a script recommended ways are:
Crontab
/etc/rc.local
Writing an init script and placing in rc.local
Writing a service file to kick off the script (new way but init scripts are easier)

Also any script you weite needs to be in /boot dorectory tjat way if you meed to ipdate something uou can plug sd card into a computer and update it if you are running a headless (no monitor) setup.

For clarity this is what I used which worked and appears to be the RPI4 workaround

Quote:
sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart
