I reckon i'm alright though at the moment. i'm going to try and fully exhaust the idea of putting all of this into the hama viewer before I try and mount it into the body of the kango. I will however be loosely stuffing it all in there as a test before I finalise it. so much to do, so little time. I had modelled and printed a plate that sits in the hama viewer that I can attach the lcd screen to but it needs a little tweaking to fit properly. Attachment:

It would definitely be rad to get it all in the viewer. It would make it much easier to service of & when you have to. Will the speaker mount behind the mesh, or deeper in the body? I have about 99% of my parts ready to roll too. I had just asked a friend to help me with the programming Thanks so much for sharing this with us! |

I was thinking about getting it into the viewer but not sure how much that'll affect the sound. I need to write a bit more code with respect to the digital compass calibration. (it periodically needs to be calibrated to ensure it's working properly) after that I reckon i'll be ready to release the first version of the software. I'm coming up a bit short on spare time at the moment but i'll work on it when possible. I totally screwed up hanging an internal door today so I've got to do it again tomorrow. Software I can do. Hi all, well all of the parts I ordered finally came and i soldered most of them up last night. Here they all are sitting in the viewer Attachment: I still need to connect the LCD screen so no movie yet but the pi boots and everything else still works ok. The little silver box at the back is a 1200mah battery that should provide power for a decent stint. I will need to route a couple of cables into the drill housing for a speaker and drill button press but other than that it is all looking nice and compact. |

I probably need to think about designing the mount for the electronics next as well as fixing some software issues. Hi everybody. well it's been a while since I posted anything, I've not been able to spend any time on this project due to one reason or another. hopefully i'll be able to make some progress now. So the main focus since the last time I posted has been to design and build a mount for all of the electronics and lcd screen. I've tried to make it so I can mount the boards and screen independently and then slot them into a base unit. The base unit will then slide into the hama viewer. anyone know how to undo one of these? I need to get new wires in there and the screws that are there aren't for taking it apart. Attachment: forgive me if i'm being dumb i'm not very experienced with these things. |

Just a thought, but could the switches (and LED's) on the Vivitar Flash part, that sits on top of the viewer be used in some way? I think there are 4 way and 2 way switches on there. |

I'll look into it. with regards to the LED's of course anything is possible but my point of view is that they sit on the underside of the unit and therefore wouldn't normally be in a position to be seen. |

Hi all, sorry for the lack of updates. in all honesty it's because I haven't done too much with it since the last time I posted due to work and family commitments. I got to the stage that you see in the video but the application performance wasn't good enough. I've been researching ways to make it better but the best one involves re-writing the app to work in open-gl which is out of my comfort zone for now. there are other problems as well in that the small amp and speaker that I bought was in no way loud enough to be heard. not sure what to do about that as i'm not very savvy when it comes to electronics. I'll try and re-start this project as soon as I can. cheers Rich |

Just read Ians original tracker post and it looks like component wise i'm using much the same components. i'm using pi zero W Adafruit MAX98357 I2S Class-D Mono Amp GY-271 compass module (although i'm going to look into using a tilt compensated module at a later date) Adafruit PowerBoost 500 Basic 2.2" inch TFT LCD Display SPI ILI9341 240x320 4ohm speaker 1200mah 3.7v lipo battery LP503562 i've wired it up so that most of the components are in the hama viewer. if i do this again however i would probably house everything inside the kango and run 9 core wire out to the lcd screen instead. |
