The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I seem to recall that Mike Rush made a somewhat playable version of this and made it available. I did a search on google and found several places that offered it, but I'm hesitant to download as I don't know the source. Is there a trustable place to get it from?

Let me expand on this, maybe some of you can help me.

What I would like to do is have a short movie made of the screen where it flashes the *critical* warning. I would also like to have the accompanying sound and have this play over a tablet which is placed inside the screen area on my Gridcase computer.

The sound file I can probably do, but have ALL of this together playing on a tablet is a bit outside my skill set. Now...I'm not asking anyone to do this for me, but if you have any insight or tips on how to do this, I'd love to hear it.

I had something like what you're describing on one of my older laptops, possibly my Mac... I'll have a look!

If you want Mikes original flash version, its still on this site - in fact, I was looking for it the other day as well.

I believe I still have the MSDOS version as well. It's not as nice as Mike's, but it runs under DOS 5.0/6.0

Its a Shockwave flash file - it should work in a web browser, or you can look for a standalone flash player. Try right-clicking on the file, go to 'Open with' and select Internet Explorer (or your chosen browser)

Thanks again CrashDown, that got it working.

Now, anyone have ideas on how to make this into some sort of movie file that can play on a tablet?

Try a screen recording software such as Snagit which has a free 15 or 30 day trial, can't remember which. Save it as a video and transfer it to your tablet :)

Android tablets should still play the Flash file?

Moosh, I'll give that a try!

PVB, that's a good question, I'm afraid I don't know.

Hi, yes I am, though I don't post much these days.

If anyone doesn't want to install an emulator to run my Sentry Gun program but would like a video of it running, then I've just recorded a random run of it.

It's an AVI file, that you could put on repeat, though I only recorded it running through once to keep the size down. I could record a longer one if anyone's interested. It's random, so every time I run it, it's different.

The file is here and only hangs around for a week, as I didn't want to have any traffic problems with my own website, so I used WeTransfer:

SentryGun.avi

I think that should work.

Thanks. Yes I wrote it on my Amiga 1200 in AMOS Professional.

There's a special options screen, and the main options (the one you see in the film) where you can set things like continuous play, No. of rounds, No. of Aliens, switch the gun sounds off/on, change the gun letter (A-D), use the joystick to manually shoot the aliens, change the type of targeting, etc.

It simulates a corridor, where most Aliens appear from the distance, but some drop in from the ceiling, of from the side (you can see the range drop when that happens, then jumps back to the main horde when it's been killed), and there is targeting time taken into account when changing from a close target to a far one, things like that. Quite a few of the options make a difference on the main film-seen menu screen.

It was fun to make.

It's a shame an AMOS clone wasn't made for PCs, though I don't think emulation is very difficult to set up; install WinUAE, download Kickstart ROM files (v3.1 mainly), get my disk file, select A1200, configure a few settings, press start.

good work.

I have used winUAE once before but not in a long time. How long ago did you write it?

think it would be a nice little project. I might try it myself one day.

I did the first version in 2003, then several updates in 2011, then an update three months ago to change the website address mentioned on the title screen, as Virgin Media decided to delete everyone's websites, and didn't even let us leave a few bytes for a redirect file. I had to get a domain from elsewhere, and it's a free one, which is why I didn't want to kill it by uploading a video file to it.

I had to make the font by copying it from the screen :)

I found out that tablets don't really like playing the sentry gun "game". And trying to find an app. that would wasn't working either.

But...I was able to use that snagit program Moosh mentioned and that worked great! Then all I had to do was find an app. to play THAT! Fortunately, it was easy to find one and get it to work, so I have exactly what I need. :)
