Post subject:  M240 Incinerator build
Well. I am going to do my best to get a couple of flame units built for DragonCon 2016. I've been streaching my legs learning how to cast in various materials, so Id thought I try to build up my own unit based upon prior builds on these pages. Step one. Find a photo and enlarge to full size. I enlarged a picture to 31.5 inches in length... wow, its a big puppy.

I have acquired the brass fitting for the aft end... a scrapped airsoft XM177 without the forward assist and an el cheapo airsoft M-16A1. I think it is a little shorter than the real thing... I need to verify if it is close enough. And a scrapped M203 handguard. Trouble is the guard has a massive chunk taken out of it where it fits into the front site... I am not happy with it, it will be a lot of extra putty work.

I am bamboozled by the muzzle. I've looked at 30 degree hose clamps, umbrella holders for old tractors, weed burner tips.... Nothing close. I have a bunch of photos. When I have some free time I'm going to try and build it in CAD and 3D print it. Otherwise for casting, whittling and dremel a piece of wood will probably work....

I found it on eBay. I set up an auto search string for Hansen 4HK. After a month or so I got the hit I wanted.

Well.... I have not gotten a lot done in the last week. With all the stuff going on in my personal life....

Next up is trim the aft M16 body back to the mag release. From looking at close up pictures the lower receiver seems to have an extra long attachment... where the buffer tube would screw into the lower receiver.... it seems a lot longer on the M240 compaired to my ARs..... Wonder if the old old M16s had a longer screw in port.... otherwise I guess I could scupt it forward another 0.5"

thanks I'm going to make up a plywood filler this weekend like Retrograde did on his. Things got busy in the last week with finally getting engaged. I don't have an AR / M16 upper receiver with a buffer tube reinforcement profile like the orginal did. I'll probably end up either sculpting something or just not lengthen the profile...

Congrats on the engagement, i'm having the same issue on my M240 build i've decided just to move the fitting back a bit and use my 3rd AR as make up pieces.

Thanks man. We knew it was coming. I had exactly 6 months to get anything I wanted done after graduating with my engineering masters. that time was up last week..... I'm thinking adding another AR section to the aft and smoothing with putty is the way to go, and that was after looking at lots of Shawn Morgan pictures and scaling off those.

Well. Nuts. I was cutting the aft receiver and the saw skipped. I now have a deep cut in the middle of the smooth plate. I can putty it out. But I got to thinking. Is the surface of this thing smooth all over or is it a rough parkerized finish? When I cast the proto type it will look weird to have smooth pieces (putty areas) and rougher areas (simulated parkerized finish) right next to each other...... so it looks like I'm sanding all the plastic pieces smooth to have an even finish on the prototype.

Careful using Shawn's build it is highly idealized and has some wrong dimensions.

Yeah. I kind of got that from the lack of forward assist on his. Figure it's a good start for lots of dinners t angles and overall appearance. The propstore pictures are only left side right side.

Well I finally got to work on the build a little. With work and wedding planning, free time is very scarce. :( Ive started sanding and puttying the airsoft receivers and have the 1:1 print glued to the plywood.
Ive got it setup to cut out the plywood in as is to get a better feel for how close it really is....

OK.... Wedding planning has taken way too much of my free time... I finally got it cutout of plywood, 1" thick 1:1 scale... so the tip of the flamer to the base of the brass fitting would be 31.5 inches long. It looks and feels about right in length, so now to trim the wood and start attaching the cut up airsoft recievers and fittings....
