Post subject:  Steady cam vest recomendations
Hi all looking to start a smart gun build I have an Airsoft MG42 not fussed about screen accurate but can someone recommend a vest and arm that would look the part and take the weight ideally about $300 to $400 cost?

I used one from Ebay....

Specifically a twin swinging arm one, that was about 8-10kg weight range.

They don't have the same one as what I used originally, but this one is similar.

I've got something similar to Chef's version, also from eBay (although mine's Indian made rather than Chinese - I'm sure there's very little practical difference). A "Menbo CY-008" or something like that, I think.

One thing to be aware of is weight rating. Most of these 'cheap' arms seem to be rated for up to 12Kg or so ... and some of the very cheap ones are only rated to 4-5Kgs.

Purchasing my vest/arm some years ago, I didn't really have any idea of what a M56 might weigh as mine was years away from being completed (actually, it's probably still years away from finished-finished :roll: ). Currently, my M56 is about 15Kg & that's without airsoft internals, I estimate it to be closer to 18 maybe 20Kg when I'm done so I may need to see if I can upgrade the arm at some point - the moral of this story? Research and askin questions before spendin coin = a real good idea! :)

Thanks for opening this topic. In fact I was about to ask the same question as Chef doesn`t seem to answer pm`s regarding his personal progress on the vest project anymore. ;-)

My own Smartgun is based on an M53 and thus extremely heavy. The 1-15 kg arm Chef suggested might just be enough to bear the load though. Will happily take a closer look.

I have the same doubt about this matter.
Chinese ebay options look good but gives the feeling that they are a bit shoddy.
Are these options work well? arm mean.
we could make a list of the most interesting options and discuss them.
I do not differentiate a good from a bad quality XDDD

From the raw data Rob's "suggestions" look good and yes my second arm from China had quality issues.
Your either lucky or rich if you can avoid sets that are below $1000USD.

Some of the "better" arms that come with a lower price can be upgraded with a better spring.

Finding something that looks close to the original will be a challange as nowadays designs do look different.
If you consider that most of it will be covered by the chest plate that shouldn't be that big of an issue.

I bought a CamTree vest, which included an arm. It came from India and ran about $280USD. It's not screen accurate but I'm pretty happy with it. I did a couple of small mods to make it a little more comfortable.
