| Post subject: | Kango Question |
Hi guys, I recently came into this Kango for super cheap... but it's in kind of rough shape. Can't decide if I should rehab it with body filler, or just clean it up and paint it as is. I'm kind of leaning towards giving it the Bondo treatment, but I kind of want the red to be able to wear through like the original prop over time... just looking to sound things off on people who will listen (all my girlfriend has to say is that it stinks and shouldn't stay in the living room). Thanks!

I don't see any damage in the photo that looks too bad, it would make the finished MT look nicely used. Obviously it will look different after you've gutted and degreased it, so maybe do all that first and then see if it needs extra help? Congratulations on getting one of these, I'm on the lookout for one too as I have the rest of the correct bits. |

Thanks guys, I think the first step as you've suggested is just to gut it and clean it up first. I have most of the other bits. Really just missing the mesh, JoBo pieces, and the slide viewer. I'm going to prep this guy anyway, though and probably get working on it. Thanks for your $.02! |

I would think that after awhile of use, a motion tracker would show a good amount of wear. Depending on what it looks like after you've cleaned it up, it might be fine without Bondo. |

my 327 was pretty kicked to crap as well. It looks like there was eve a spot where someone engraved their (or their company's) name in the plastic. Then someone else sanded it completely off. However, once it was taken apart, cleaned and painted up, you can barely tell. Also, a surprising amount of the surface is covered by 'greeblies'. I would not worry about 'rehabbing' it. Skip the filler and get straight to the build I say. Any scuffs that are visible after paint will just add character and imply use. |

So I was thinking of replacing the Kango nameplate on the bottom of the handle with something like this: ![]() What do you guys think? On aluminum with the numbers punched in, of course. And with all the lines actually aligned correctly |

Really cool idea! One thing I would change is WY to ARMAT, but that's just personal preference |

I always figured ARMAT only made the weapons. Plus that WY logo is too cool |

I personally hate that the WY logo has but slapped on just about everything...but that's just me. |

Considering the themes of corporate hegemony in the franchise I think it makes sense. At least for military equipment. I wouldn't put it on a coffee-maker... But they're The Company for a reason I think. Still, I totally respect where you're coming from. |

Actually, the Weylan-Yutani logo IS on the coffee makers in the Nostromo galley It is your prop and certainly the WY logos are iconic, so go for it. I might go with Ridton Corp or Chigusa just to mix it up a bit. |

retrogarde wrote: Actually, the Weylan-Yutani logo IS on the coffee makers in the Nostromo galley Lol, you're totally right. Chigusa has a cool logo, too. Or I suppose I could just keep it really utilitarian with something just like "Ultrasonic Doppler-shift Tracker Type 314" or something like that... |

Here's another thought: The MT is mostly made of products by Kango, Hama and Jobo. What if you invented a new company using those initials? KHJ, JHK or whatever. It might be a neat nod to the origins of the prop. |

I'm gonna have to brainstorm a little, I think... |

veektohr, So are you the originator / owner of the Motion Tracker serial plate? Looks fantastic. Never knew the Motion Tracker (Kango drill) had a spot for that till this post. Now mine looks barren without one. Gives it the real world touch. What is the process to use it? I don't want to print one out without the creator's permission / copyright. |

The ones i had made came on thin tiny metal plates. And where a tiny bit big for the location but once i sanded it down it fitted just fine. |

corsasri, I don't know "taz". I did a lookup on this forum, there are 2 of them. Which one did you mean? "TazVader" or "TazzyUK"? Thanks for the help. |
