OK, so everyone knows the Hama Timer 5401 and its case are key components to a motion tracker build. Attachment: It is actually not that hard to find the Timer itself as it is often found 'loose' on various auction sites, but getting one with the case eluded me a long time before I tried searching another way. Am I crazy, or does this "Kalt" brand timer use the same case? Attachment: Attachment: Also, check out this "Rangefinder" brand timer...with the same case? Attachment: Attachment:

So I scored this case 'loose' off ebay for ~$5 shipped! It was listed without any brand referenced. No timer came with it, it was just the case. (Timer seen there was found separately) I don't believe it is a "real" Hama timer case as the wear on the inside seems to imply a much larger dial (like one of the 2 above) had been rubbing against it, but the hama timer does fit into it quite neatly. Attachment: Size matches a resin cast I have perfectly. My question, to those who have "real" hama cases, is: Are the ridges "raised" on the real one? The inscriptions and letters are imprinted on the inside (so outside is smooth), however the 'box' outline around the letters is raised on mine. Attachment: Attachment: Were they raised, needing to be filed/sanded smooth, on the 'hama' case, or was the hama case completely smooth on the outside from the factory? Thanks for any help |

The original Hama cases were indeed completely smooth on the outside from the factory. Harry |

I have the case to one of the above mentioned big dials. While not exact, still dang close. I have another case coming soon that may be yet a 4th option (in addition to the 'real' and 2 x 'fakes' above). I'll update when I have it. |

Well this was quicker than expected. Box #2 showed up mere hours after posting. So this is my 'other' box. It is 100% smooth on the outside (no raised edge like the first one). Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: However, it does not say "made in japan". It has an empty space. Is this one authentic? Another generic replacement? I have no idea. BTW, another question for all Hama Timer owners. What is on the bottom/underside of the actual timer? "Made in Japan" or "hama" info? |

I've been meaning to buy one of those cases for a while. There's a few more brands that make them. The bottom of the Hama timers used in the film are just black with no markings. However, I have seen one timer that seemed to be an authentic Hama with the Japan markings. |
