The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: Seiko Reissue the 'Ripley' Watch

Available on a certain auction site for US $475.00 (Approximately £312.51), available in grey metal or black.
Some minor differences, and the date's a nice addition.

Gizmodo's article:
http://gizmodo.com/seiko-is-re-issuing-the-futuristic-watch-ripley-wore-in-1742998200

Will it have an effect on the original's value, do you think?

EDIT: The 'Bishop' watch is also available, similar price.

I can't say I ever really noticed the watch in the film but I really love the looks of that watch. Tempted to get one when they come out.

Might affect the price of an original just a little, as some people will settle for a repro rather than shell out big bucks for an original.

I suspect you're right. It did cross my mind that it's possible to sell the original, buy the repro and pocket some cash. A less valuable watch might actually get some wear.

Probably won't hurt the value too much, the article says that Seiko made a few little changes to the externals so that it's easier to differentiate the re-issue from the original.

I've always dug this watch. Such a cool Japanese cyberpunk 80's design. Fantastic stuff.

This kind of release usually raises the price of the original actually. By releasing this replica it shines a light on the existence of the very cool original instantly making the original a more desirable object in the eyes of collectors who may not have noticed it before.
