The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I think I need to make this more enticing to prep it for sale, and more pleasing to me in case it never sells! I think the only weak spot of this project was the paint. Retro has inspired me to go ahead with a full on repaint.

After comparing some color samples to my TE set and after Christian's glowing review/results of the paint(s) I suggested to him, I will be running with these easily found colors.

base coat green - "Behr" (home depot) brand: "North Woods 410-7"
dark/black green - "Valspar" (Lowes) brand: "Nocturnal Green 5011-1"
brown - "Valspar" (Lowes) brand: "Swiss Chocolate 3010-10"
Tan - "Sherwin Williams" (Lowes) brand: "Pinewood Forest HGSW3171"
Gray - ...its gray! I'll not be picky here

It is going to take a while to get this done as I have to strip my old paint off. It has a coat of grate polish for weathering, which is wax based, so painting over the top won't work. I need to get it back down to bare metal. Despite the tedious work, I am feeling pretty good about this.

That is some awesome info! Definitely fits with my thinking of local and off the shelf options that I go with on my builds.

I went with a polyurethane (varnish type) coating on mine so I could paint over things later.

Yes indeed! These paints go on very nicely right from the first coat unlike some I've used. I'm really excited to see how they work for other folks. You can't beat the price either!

Good luck Terran, I think your actually going to enjoy the process once you get it stripped.

Finally an update! I am well on my way in the repaint.

Stripped it down to bare metal

Then the paint adventure began:

I hit a hiccup. The latex paint I chose did not appreciate the bare metal. For those planning on using the paints listed above, I am pretty certain that if you use primer before you paint, you won't have any issues. If you are painting over the top of other paint I highly doubt you will have any issues.

I, however, did NOT use primer. I wanted the bare metal to show under scratches, so I did not 'prep' the area much. The paint did not like that. Just the latex on my bare metal produced a 'soft' result. I could scratch it with my fingernail even after 2 days of drying. I was forced to abandon the "North woods" latex paint as a result.

So I took my color matched swatches around town and found a hobby shop with "Model Masters" 2091 Dunkelgrun RLM 82. It is an enamel, so it should be very durable and grab pretty good. As for the color itself, I dig it and believe it is a very close match to what TE used.
No spray version was available, so I had to just get multiple little jars and air brush them on. Took me nearly 5 full jars, but I did it.

With the base green finally on, it has to be all downhill from here right? Time to camo and grafitti up this sucker!

I was wondering if you'd have that problem. Years ago I had humbrols matched at Lowes, or Home Depot, and they told me at the time it wouldn't work on bare metal. And it certainly didn't. This time around however I'm using Humbrol acrylic spray as the green basecoat, which should hopefully function secondarily as a primer as well, since I will be using the above listed Valspar Swiss Chocolate.

The colors are decided and done!

As I mentioned before, I took a TE greave to Lowes and Home depot and just held it up against the cardboard sample swatches. I found some pretty close options mentioned above, but I do NOT recommend using them on bare metal without primer. I still think they are a great starting point if someone has primered armor (plastic or steel) or are painting over the top of other existing paint.

That said, I did something nearly completely different! I used:

-Base green: Model Masters 2091 Dunkelgrun RLM 82 (Airbrushed on). This color does exist in an acrylic, but I used enamel for durability. Took 5 jars.

-Dark/black green: MIXTURE of the above mention "Valspar" (Lowes) brand: "Nocturnal Green 5011-1", an off the shelf Forest Green Acrylic, and a touch of generic white acrylic. This mix increased the durability of the paint and brought out the green a bit more in it. It was almost black as it stands. *Mixing latex and acrylic is perfectly cool, but don't mix enamels with either latex or acrylic!

-Brown: "Americana DecoArt" Raw Umber DA130. $2 bottle acrylic off the shelf of any craft store and maybe even walmart. Straight up.

-Tan: "Model Master" Dark Earth ANA617. I did throw a few drops of a generic brown in there to darken it up a bit. I actually like it a lot in its base form and think it would look great as it stands with some weathering on top, but I wanted to match the TE tan off the bat so needed it darker.

Since the colors are pretty spot on, I am not planning a lot of weathering. A grate polish treatment will make everything too dark, so I am just planning some lightly applied black rattle can overspray/dusting to finish it off. Of course I need to finish the graffiti first.

Pretty fantastic looking, I must say.

One thing that occurred to me, is that one might be able to do a layer of clear coat on the bare metal and then try painting over the top. That way there is a layer for the paint to adhere to without reacting to the metal, and you won't have a primer coat showing through any scratches so that will match the screen used stuff. Not sure if that would work for sure, but it's an idea.

You could also try to key the metal first with some fine sandpaper to give the paint something to attach to.
As for the weathering i used charcoal acrylic paint which was watered down a bit , applied around the armour then buffed off with a rag. It worked well i thought.

Great ideas Tac and Stimpy. Another thing I forgot about was a "clear primer". I have never actually seen it in real life, but I saw a video online where a guy used some. I think all 3 of those options could def expand the usefulness of the latex.

In any case, I have moved forward with my more traditional acrylics and enamels. I am very near completion. Just gotta strap it up and weather it just a hair.

For reference to show paint match (of my enamels, acrylic and latex blends), this is my right shoulder pad/bell on top of the TE armor.

Thanks everyone. Here it is. I still need to add the name stencil, but I am otherwise calling this 'done'.

And for S's and giggles, some side by side shots with the 'real deal'.
I gotta say I was pretty proud of myself with the overall proportions considering I only had photos and my own past armor builds to work off of at the time.
