Ha, yeah the obsession may be bordering on the unhealthy side. But thank you very much for the kind words.

So while I wait/hunt for new springs to arrive, I figure I'll start documenting the headset build. I have been messing around with it a while.
It will be made of many original parts with the gaps filled in by scratch build and some fellow board member parts.

Found a real headset and T28 flash a looooong while back. They have just been sitting, but am finally ready to make use of them.

Recently I got a pretty lucky score on the evilbay when I found an adapter that included the correct* Lemo connector for only $13 shipped!
*(correct housing anyways. No clue what the 'correct' pin count is inside the housing. There are at least 2 variants)

Tracked down the megatron parts and am filling in the gaps with resin bits from Chef and tons of scratch building (various PVC pipe sizes and plastruct)

I've made quite a bit of progress building up the camera since that image. It came out a little bulky, but I think it will still be OK. So its coming along.

SUCCESS!!!

Finally found some springs that would properly support the load.

For anyone else scratch building an arm, these are the springs that WILL support a metal airsoft gun.

Here is my brother 'modeling' it. He held that pose a looooong time while waiting for me to get the camera ready. Everything is solid and stable.

Time to focus on the headset full time as the arm is wrapped up!

Absolutely fantastick work there Pal.

I love that screwdriver Holding the arm to the vest :D

Ha! Yeah I was wondering if anyone would call me out on the screwdriver. I have yet to find a lynch-pin that I like (always too long, too skinny, or too small of a grip area to remove it).

Thanks everyone

I kinda like the screwdriver! It looks like a mid-battle repair job ;)

Got quite a bit done lately and need to catch up on updates.

Couple weeks back I was just messing around and painted up a chest plate to hang on the wall with my Hicks and Hudson camo graffiti 'plaques'.

I scratch built the gun camera out scraps. I am fairly pleased with it considering its materials.

I 'finished' sculpting my headset camera (not everything is seen there, but it was mostly done at that point).

And slapped together the eye piece (including digging out the little square to glue in the actual megatron ribbing and real screws.)

The little green thing in the top control knob is an airsoft BB. I think the real one had a green LED stuffed in there, but this came out pretty close I think.

Tonight I attached the eye piece and better secure the headset (a single screw is holding it together now).

Thanks guys.

So last night I screwed the eye piece down. I shortened and zip tied the wires to the counterweight. I put 'ends' on all the wires. I guess that is it!
I still need to work out some kinks in stringing it all up and maybe do some touch up paint/weathering. But for now I am all done.

Since I reckon I'm done, the next time this thread is updated probably wont be until after dragon con with some full blown action shots. Thanks for looking!

Post subject:  Re: Smartgun build (w/scratch built & cheats!): Pretty much

I FINALLY got around to attaching my chest plate.

The solution was not ....'elegant', but it is effective!

I used some heavy duty velcro on each side of a block of wood (chunk of 2x4).

Wood velcros to vest. Chest plate velcros to wood.

Wood also holds my allen wrenches for field repairs, and I will also connect one of the cables to it as if the wood were the 'computer' (I have to connect the 2nd cable to something after all!).

It is all very secure, and now I can easily remove or swap out the chest plates so I can bounce around between a Vaz setup for display, my own chest plate for my use, or my brother's custom chestplate for the upcoming D*con.

Looks like a practical solution and that's what counts.
Looking forward to your D*Con sweep videos. Have fun.

It looks excellent and I like the practicality of being able to swap out the chest plates.

How did you create / obtain the flash suppressor on your SG, and how on earth did you disassemble the 'arm' on the T28? Mine looks identical to the one you have with the two flash units connected to it, but cannot see any screws or any way to take it apart so you are left with the round opening which the megatron pieces then attach to.

Thanks!

-The flash suppressor was made from 2" PVC pipe. Back on the first page (post 10 i think) I did a little quickie update on it.

-Freeing up that "loop"/round opening on the arm was a messy process! I do not believe there is a clean way to do it. If there is a clean way, then I don't know it. I carefully used a dremel tool to cut away around it. It all came down to carefully aimed cutting, drilling, and bending/breaking to free the part.

PVC pipe idea worked out great! Nice idea. I have a looong ways to go before I get to that stage.
Thanks for the advice on the dremel. I have a dremel though I'll save tackling it until I'm further along in the process.
I'm currently recovering from how much I had to hand over for a Beyerdynamic HM560 for the SG headset...yikes! No easy way around that one...
