The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey guys getting our BDU's ready and had a question. Found a site with embroidered name tapes but ran across this picture and it looks like a stencil?

Just trying to figure out which is correct or if it matters that much?

Screen accurate name tapes were written with black marker but many people prefer embroidered tapes :)

Correct. The embroidered tapes will survive the wash where the markered tapes will eventually wash away

And then there is always wash-proof fabric marker. ;)

This is a bit of a sticking point of course. The "film accurate" way is to hand letter the nametapes, but were we meant to believe this is what the Colonial Marines of 2179 did? Obviously this was just a cost saving measure since the tapes got hardly any screen time (and Cameron was from the Roger Corman school of filmmaking). Camotech (linked above) does a bang up job for very little money and I feel it gives a much more believable look.

Again though, it is personal preference and no one will tell you you're doing it wrong either way.

Spur Nametapes (1800nametape.com) will also do USCM fonts as a custom order.

At the risk of creating a zombie thread....

I cant find the USCM font on spurtapes, and camotech have a $10 minimum order

I saw them somewhere else earlier this year, I dont suppose anyone knows where I am thinking of?

I prefer camotech though. I have tapes from both.

So lurching this thread back from the dead.

I ordered three custom nametapes from pachesnpins.com last year, they failed to appear. Email ontact advises me that despite the notes on the website aying free UK shipping I need to pay shipping as well.

So I poy up the cash.

Email from Karen at patchesnpins assured me that she had dispatched them. Obviously I havent receieved.

In the meantime we had had Christmas and the order I put in for my flatemate arrived safely, so I chalk it up to just one of those things when stuff goes missing in the post.

So on January 23rd I place another order for custom nametapes, again laying out for postage.

I havent yet seen them, my email of April 14th has yet to be answered.

In the meantime I am now going to camotech and hoping they can ship to me in the next few weeks.

My tapes arrived from Camotech today (first USCM item!! Yay for me!!!) and I ordered them on May 9th. Super easy to do business with. Shoot her an email with what you want, she will send you an invoice when they are done, you pay, she ships. Fantastic quality!

I hand stenciled mine with Sharpie. Screen accurate FTW! But I also put velcro
on the back of mine, so they're removeable for laundering. ( -1 Accuracy) ;)

Order is in with camotech so hopefully my pilot will be up to date for LFCC

Thank you for the various offers of help

Karen at PNP has said she posted, but will refund this time. Given how well standard orders go I wonder if she is subbing the work out.

And they are here from Camotech already, I did have to order four so I need to decide what to do with the others.

I already have a couple of ideas :)

I've had nothing but grief from PnP, and nothing but professionalism from Camotech. Glad you got your tapes!
