The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

We've all been there, "are you G.I. Joe?" "Are you from Call of Duty?"

Nobody recognizes a Marine from Aliens without a little visual aid.

I was looking at those plush facehuggers as a possibility, but I really couldn't justify the price for something that isn't even close to screen accurate. So that got me thinking, how hard could it be to make my own?

Quarax recently posted some shots of the facehuggers from Aliens with a ruler next to them, so I decided to go for it. First I drew out the basic shape on some leftover foam padding:

Then I dug into my collection of old Halloween costuming bits and found these choice pieces:

Now I'm test fitting, trimming and gluing them down!

I'm experimenting with a few different glues at the moment, and testing my paint options too. I need to thin out the fingers, and there will be a lot of blending needed, but so far this build has only cost me about $10 in glue and some "witch finger" extensions off eBay. Those haven't arrived yet, but I'm still busy with the main body of the thing. Using the pad beneath the thumb on the monster hands for the *ahem* lungs gives a nice natural shape, and of course the Klingon forehead ridges serve nicely as the back detail.

This will mostly hang on my wall display (or off the back of my armour at Cons) so I'm not worrying about the bottom side at all (for now). I'll post some updates when I make more progress!

whaaaaaaaaaat!? Dude those Halloween parts, the mask especially, look like they were designed and made solely to 'some day' be part of a scratch-built facehugger. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

(also don't forget the "not very good halo guy")

Pretty funny really how similar the shapes are! I've had that Don Post Klingon mask for over twenty years and never wore it once as trying to match the color felt uncomfortably like wearing blackface.

I guess I've had those gloves just as long. There's a shot of me wearing them on the cover of a Cthulhu Live LARP manual from the late nineties. I really hold on to stuff I guess!

Hard to believe those latex pieces have held up for 20 years!

Good luck Retro, I can't wait to see how this turns out! :)

Hey Yyzmec,

I've bought a few different kinds of glue and silicone to see what will best coat this thing. I've got a lot of gaps to fill and seams to smooth out.

I realize I was waiting for the "witch fingers" to arrive from Asia and they never did! It totally slipped my mind. Time to PM a seller on the 'Bay I'd say.

Thanks for the reminder!

Very interested. Along with Bishop I am working on a remote control facehugger. Do not know if it can manage the parade but at least the table.

Thanks!

Greg
