The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

A small detail about the VP70 - there are actually three versions of the VP70:

Attachment:
VP70comparison.jpg
VP70comparison.jpg [ 183.46 KiB | Viewed 1776 times ]

- the early "VP70" (no M or Z!) with the thumb rest.
- the "VP70M" with a different slide and no thumb rest
- the "VP70Z" which is identical to the VP70M except that you can't attach the stock and thus you have no way to fire in burst mode

The VP70 (without M or Z) was the one used in Aliens.

MGC produced a correct shell ejecting model of the VP 70.
The Tanio Koba airsoft version is a mix of the VP70 (slide) and the VP70M (Grip). This version actually exists in the real steel world but in VERY small numbers.

Cheers
Stefan

Somewhere I saw this Lara Croft Tomb Raider wax sculpture and she had a VP70. Some comments seemed to suggest it was a repaint but It looked like the top one.

This may be extremely simple and I’m just looking past the obvious but what about the clasp on Hicks chest armor?

I don't believe the original(s) had any writing or engraving on the pieces to provide manufacturer identification. The closest I've found (indentations on the latch and a wide ring for the lock to pass through) show up under the search for brass "'Trunk Hasp".

The 3001 lamp can be added to the 3002.
Same lamp, without the barn doors.

Are ya'll ready for the deep dive reveal that no one asked for ?!!? (but if you are like me, now you want one)

I think I found the Weyland Yutani Hard hat.

Seen in the background of colony scenes and a bit more clearly in continuity photos, you see these distinctive hard hats.

We sell a fair amount of safety equipment here at my work and I am pretty familiar with numerous brands of hard hats, but those have never looked familiar.
On a whim I started searching just the UK ebay for vintage hats and think I got a hit. Sure enough, this "HEDGARD" Type 2 hard hat looks the part, sports a "Made in England" label and is a 1987 unit, so surely company was in full swing during filming.

There is a 2nd type of hard hat I have yet to identify. The Welder in the colony has a different type. The front is obstructed by the hand-held welding shield he carries, but there are definity softly contoured and closely spaced 'ribs' on the top of his hard hat. The search for that continues, but I suspect that it too was either British or European. I may never find either one of them here in the states... sad face.

Yes that’s the one - if you want to get it you could post it to me and I’ll forward it to you? The British Rail hard hat? Interestingly is one of those on the desk in your images painted Brown Bess?

Thank you very much for the offer, but even that one is a bit steep for me considering the work I would need to put into it to accurize it. Maybe if another pops up I'll take you up on it, though!

As for the color of the one on the panel, maybe it is just my monitor but to me it looks like it used to be yellow or orange that was dirtied up heavily.
I think it is the same one as the guy walking away, but impossible to say. The foul color change/lighting effect rears its head even here. In one pic of the the bearded worker it is clearly orange and the other clearly red.

Unrelated, I now am doubting whether the welder's helmet has ribs or if that just happens to be the glare from overhead lights. The side shot sure looks like there are no ribs... or might he even have the same as the other 3 with actual indentations on the side casting shadows, but faux ribbing due to lighting in the middle? I'm now leaning toward the last one, but again the side pic shows very little going on. Looks pretty smooth there...

Awesome find T! <saves images furiously>

Second hat definitely has ribs on the top, to my eye

Here is my vintage UK hardhat in what I believe is the correct shade of red. The logo should sand off nicely, but I have included it here as there are no other distinguishing marks on the helmet. Maybe including "GPO" in a search will help others to track one down.
