The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Has your hunting for parts ever spiraled out of control leaving you wondering, "Where will it end? When will I stop?"
The easy answer is "When I have it ALL!!!" So here is how we will track it.

Below is a list (which will be updated as new info is presented) of EVERY "found object" used in Aliens. This is not an 'overall prop' list, as I am not including components that were 'scratch/custom' built. I am only compiling 'real world' items that might theoretically be found floating around out there.

If you feel there is an error, if something needs clarification, or if something is missing, PLEASE CHIME IN!!! In addition to being reference tool, it would be great if this could spur solutions to the last of the unsolved mysteries.

*(Virtually ALL this info can be found on existing threads in this forum. I did not include citation links within the list because there was just sooo much material, but if a dispute occurs or if a citation is requested I will def be adding the links as the thread evolves.)

Anyways, on to the list:

(Using this spot as the "Unsolved Mystery" section)

What other items are almost certainly "real world" found items, but have yet to be discovered?

-The 45 degree connector on the smartgun headset from the stalk to the coiled cable?
-Newt's Doll Head?
-The calculator screen in the hack kit?
-The disc port on the lockers?
-Vid screen 'housing' from Ripley's apartment and Colony dressing?
-Specific VCR parts on Cryo Chamber?
-Briefcase for Bishop's Remote terminal?
-Sentry Gun Camera?
-Rotary switch on 'stunt' trackers?
-Exact Grenade box (MTM boxes VERY similar, but the 12 guage MTM box has the wrong clasp & the 20 gauge has the right clasp but is too small to fit grenades. Actual exact model unlikely to be same as currently available models of of MTM boxes.)
-Salvage Crew gas masks?
-Salvage Crew Suits (recycled from "Outlander" film, but recycled from what? )
-Vid Com tone dialer? (Theorized it may be same as on Hudson's Hack pouch?)

This. This is sooo helpful, thanks so much. Most of this I had to find out for myself, you're making it real easy for project starters.
Granted, though...the hard part is finding it all. :P

You should update the Smartgun checklist. The front control switch is actually more commonly used on a Kawasaki KZ750, not the GPZ750.

Noble said the Dietrich/Frost bag was a Simrad (LP7/LE7?) rangefinder bag. Ripley's was an S6/S10 respirator bag.

Cool. The list up top is updated. I'll do a full 2.0 checklist after the thread has some time to breath and get a big chunk of updates.

That is a great point about something that was thought to have been figured out long ago. The GPZ 750 switch has been accepted as 'it' but it is true that the KZ750 switch appears to be more accurate. They are VERY similar but the KZ has a gray square button at the top corner as opposed to the red toggle switch.

It should be noted that the KZ750 has had a couple different versions with different switches, so some digging for the correct one will be required.

To be fair.... I think the switchgear for the Smart Gun could be either, depending on the year/model of the motorbike in question.

The only reason I say this is this is the one I got for mine (I damned well hope it's the right one, otherwise I'm going to look really silly!).
Image

That was off a 1983 GPZ750.

There does seem to be a number of slight variations for the same bikes, as no doubt they made small revisions during the model production runs.

Might be worth adding pictures to the ultimate guide. They do paint a thousand words.

Great to know. I just knew I got a GPZ one last year that turned out to be the 'wrong' one.

Pics would def be great, but there is a 5 or 6 pic limit per post, so I didn't bother as I wouldn't get very far into the list with pics in that first post! But absolutely, if anything is in doubt, dispute, or has variations then pics are key. Thanks for posting this one.

I think if you 'hotlink' to something like photo bucket or flickr you can probably just keep on going.

I'm sure some of my posts have been pretty 'image heavy' and I link all mine to PhotoBucket.

The only thing with it, is you have to leave that album in place, otherwise all the links break. Especially annoying on the older threads.

I used to do that with photobucket on all my posts too but it seemed like every time I compiled a list such as this with linked images people would say I should have direct uploaded everything (exactly as you said, so the info wouldn't be lost down the line if something happened to my album), so I have fallen out of the habit of using photobucket (for the record, every album I previously linked to is still in tact!).

I guess in this case 'linked images' is preferable to 'no images' so I'll see what I can do about clearing up any gray areas with image support up top.

Once the list feels really complete we could all contribute photos and make five composite images to upload. All the SG parts, all the MT parts, stuff Marines carry, etc.

Ah good idea. A good group project. I guess until then I will just run a "hybrid" of uploads, linked images and linked entire threads and just see how it goes.

Thanks everyone.

The smartgun switchgear was used on the KZ750 and the GPZ750. I can tell you with certainty though, that it was more standard on the KZ750 (trust me, I've looked at thousands of them for the past year)...but yes, it was also part of the GPZ750, though the GPZ750 more commonly had a red switch where the flat black button is (I have two incorrect switch plates because I just bought the standard GPZ750 ones...they are not correct).

I have noted it and gone and included your actual thread under that notation. Hope its cool I grabbed a pic of your correct KZ one there as reference in the body up top.
