The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Awesome Harry! I was thinking of repurposing some from whatever I could scrounge, but it would be cooler if it meant something.

Looking good man!

I think I put my name and service number on my barcode in either Code 93 or Code 128 format.

The next thing to make yourself is one of these... :D

It works a treat with those "ice fountain" sparkler things which people stick into birthday cakes or ridiculous, massive desserts in restaurants these days...

Excellent! I certainly will.

I am also keen to get one of these mugs:

For some reason the blue rim style with the tapered handle is hard to source in the States.

Retrogarde, I bet you saw I'd responded to say I have one of these in the loft! :p

Sadly not, but I do know someone with a rotating laser engraver; so I'll keep an eye out in thrift/charity/surplus stores and see what I can do!

Patch upgrade thanks to Scapey!

I believe there may be a new patch run on the horizon which is great as I still need a black patch for my cap.

And I found the mug! Nicely chipped and weathered too.

The dog tags arrived! I drilled the hole and threaded the second one on a loop of wire (as per WDI's screencap). I still need to trim the notch and make some better barcode stickers (these were just handy so I used them for the shot). I'll probably do a light weathering too, not as much as the one Gio had but at least some scuffs or scratches.

I hate to say it but I fancy that the lower tag is just on a standard short chain; and that the photo just makes it looks as though it's attached by a wire ring.

Perhaps someone can check? I don't have access to my DVDs at the moment but it's the scene towards the end in which he and Ripley are sending the message on the computer terminal.
"But the rescue team will turn back!" "I need that fucking code!" "You're not getting it. No fucking way!"

It does look pretty cool though with the ring!

Ha! It totally see it now, and the photo I put up (on page 2 of this thread) confirms it. Well damn, now I have to see if I can make that hole I drilled work as either part of the notch or weathering!

WDI,
What are the general dimensions for that flare holder thing you made?

I converted the all-white WY patch into a two-tone for my 85 cap, and thanks to Harry I have some genuine '58 webbing for the name tapes. Now to sew them onto the velcro...

Sorry man, I completely missed this message...

Umm. It's packed away in the loft at the moment but I reckon the guard part is probably 10 or 11" long with the handle being another 5 or 6".
About 4-4.5" at the widest part.

Hello everyone, I joined a few weeks back after finding a lot of useful info from this thread. I was waiting to get some patches in before posting pictures, but I finally got them and very excited to join this community. So I have the N-2B and the patches so far. The first set of Serenity patches I got were too small, almost the same size as the W161 patch. But luckily I found a seller who has 5” patches and you can clearly see the difference in the photos. So I got everything ready to go, I just wanted to ask how I should go about attaching the patches to the jacket, would fabric glue suffice? I’m still pretty green!!

Hey Nujack!
Patches are fun. There used to be a seller making them where the C in confinement was swapped for a G. Oops!

I would say fabric glue is good for getting it where you want it, but then you really need to bust out the needle and thread. Don't worry about making it look perfect, the originals sure didn't! Just look at these sloppy stitches:

Personally, I'd always recommend sewing rather than glue.

Gonfinement, Ooof!! Thanks for the help guys, I have someone that can help me with the sewing, so I’ll have everything assembled soon. I recently bought the trousers that retrogarde posted in the thread, thank you btw and I also ordered a turtleneck shirt that looks fairy close to Aaron’s, just waiting on it to come in. Just one more question for now, does anyone have a line on what type of hat Aaron wears in the film?

Hi there everyone, Schreiber here, first post on The Aliens Legacy forum.

I have always loved the look of the prisoners and staff on Fury 161 in Alien 3, even when I first saw the film as a kid in the '90s. I really appreciate the few threads on here addressing their costumes specifically and all the information that the contributors here have accumulated. It's impressive. I would like to join my voice to this conversation.

I find the look of the name tags applied to clothing and boots very visually appealing. To my knowledge, the tags never saw screen time and their purpose may as much have been to help production manage cast members' costumes as to add a little theatrical detail to boost the realism. The attention to detail in these costumes simply cannot be overstated. I have scrutinized the photos of costumes on the Alien Explorations web page and collected some photos of the name tags, some of which I present here for your reference.

Image

The fabric on most of the name tags (such as in the above photo) appears to be some mustard colored light cotton or poplin canvas material. In at least one instance, it is possibly a poplin material, such as the photo below.

Image

In the boots pictured below worn by Dillon (Charles Dutton) the name tag appears to be stamped on paper and then glued to the boot interior.

Image

The name tags were very likely stamped onto these materials in ink and then heat set, e.g., with an iron. I have sought to emulate this with a rubber stamp. Here are some trials on paper:

Image

Image

Image

I'm still looking for fabrics that are close to what was used in the film with respect to texture and color. Once I locate appropriate fabrics, I can then sew them into my clothes. My aim is to create something that emulates the prisoner costume as closely as possible. The long cloaks in the film were, as far as I can gather from interviews, produced for the film. I would speculate that this is also the case for the shorter partially quilted tunics. Based on what I have read on this forum, the trousers were also made for the film. I have some clothing items (e.g., olive sweat pants, grey sweatshirt) that are 'close' to those in the film. They need to be distressed and stenciled, however, to bring them closer to the look of the film. These name tags are a step in that direction.

Can you please share the vendor for the 5" Serenity patch? I would love to get one. I have the smaller size.

Welcome Schreiber!
Great catch with the stamped logo, that is exactly what it looks like now that you point it out.
I have the 5" patch, but I bought it on eBay many years ago. I got lucky I guess!

Hey Schreiber!! If you go to eBay, just search “Serenity Through Confinement Patch” and set the item location filter to Worldwide, there’s a seller that has the 5” patch. Should be the first listing. He’s based in the US but offers worldwide shipping. Hope this helps!!

Hi Nujack,
Thank you! It’s the first item listed on ebay when I do that search. I’ll have to pick one up now.
