The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Waheyy!! :D

The more the merrier.

I wear mine every winter. Bloody love it!

I still need to do the trousers, and I reckon I'll also do the hoody that many of the prisoners have.

Hey WDI!
Do you have a thread on trousers going, or any other costume threads related to the prison staff? I am keen to make the whole thing.

No, I haven't I'm afraid.

The trousers in particular are one of those projects that I've had in mind to do for years but I haven't found the right colour sweatshirt fleece yet or the time to properly devote to it.

Once I get into it, it should be a dead-easy project - there's not much to them.

I had photos saved of them, but I will need to search my external harddrive.
Could you give me the specifics on the belt and watch cover though?

I've got some reference photos of the trousers but I'm 99.9% certain that they were shared with me with the request that I don't share them further... I'll have to check through old emails and also to see if they were shared by their owner on here.

The belt, as best I could ever tell, appears to be a German Army belt like this, with the green paint removed from the brass buckle. Some wire wool did that for me in no time:

Here is a photo of Andrew's belt:

The watch cover was a fairly common (at the time) British MOD leather watch cover - much like this design:

Here you can see some screen caps of Aaron's watch:

Here is a great resource for Aaron's costume. I didn't realize he had a stencil on the back of his shirt!

I did mine with brown boot polish. Just brushed it on through the stencil with my boot brush and then pressed it with a hot iron and some greaseproof paper.
Worked a treat! The heat melts the polish into the fabric and sets it.

Here it is before I washed it. Once washed it faded nicely, just a little and has stayed permanent ever since.

Great technique! Using the photos from the auction I linked to I found a vintage Hanes turtleneck shirt with matching tags. When it arrives I'll do the stencil the same way you did.

Awesome :D

Mine is a placeholder - it's far too snug for me really (especially these days ;) )

The boot polish trick is a useful way to stencil.

The vintage sweatshirt arrived, so I am a bit further along with my costume. I still need to add the name tapes and velcro to the exterior of the jacket, and then figure out the dogtag.

I love mine too, but the pockets ripped at the bottom years ago! :(
Never got round to figuring out a way to replace them.

I would approach it by making new pockets, tucking them inside the existing, and then just hand felling them to the old pocket lining.

That's the plan! It's just one of many plans under a big pile of plans, that I can't even see because of the giant stack of plans in the way!

Can we talk about the dog tag situation?

I see the photo on page one of this thread (with the large notch and the barcode sticker), but then I see photos like this:

The various photos I've seen have shown a few different tags being worn at different times.

I've got a collection of photos and screen caps which I'll share later on. I've got to dash out now...

I've seen three types of dog tag in the movie.
1. The completely plain tags as in your photo above.
2. Tags with just a barcode stuck in the centre.
3. The 'hero' tags with debossing and a barcode stuck below.

And varying versions amongst those types as well.

Awesome WDI, that is great information. I found these guys if I decide to go the stamped route:

Watch cover sorted. Studying WDI's photos it looked like I could have gone with either brown or black, but I figure I can always darken the brown if I wanted to, but I couldn't change the black as easily.

My belt is now sorted too. I was worried that I had ordered the wrong size but it has a really forgiving adjustment feature. Yay German engineering.

I threw my recreation of the Weyland Yutani matchbox (shown as a prototype in the Japanese Alien3 book) into the shot for fun. Physical props are always fun to make.

For some placeholder trousers I've ordered these. They have a few of the correct features, and will (hopefully) do nicely until screen accurate ones become a reality.
