First off let me say this is NOT an original idea of mine. Someone on the RPF created one and I just made my own that was similar. The base item is the same (some sort of video game CD drive) I just made a few changes here and there based on what I had on hand and my own ideas.

The CD tray still slides in and out, I've been thinking about getting an audio chip of some sort and placing Ripley's final report on it and somehow attaching it inside the tray.

 Nice idea and well made!
A cheap 10-20sec Audio recording board would even fit in the tray.

It's like the Aliens reoprt disk not seen in the movie, but a nice prop to have.

I saw the original and I like both of these. It's a great EU prop and I like your interpretation.

I'll need a bit more than 20 sec. to get all of Rip's final report on it unless I edit it.
But I agree...when I saw the original on the RPF, I just had to make one for myself.

I wish I could remember the guys name to give him proper credit. Thanks for the kind words though. :)

You could use the cheap sound cards used in greeting cards. They can hold up to 200 seconds of audio and can have various triggers, like push buttons or light sensors.

The cards I've found in stores only hold 20 sec. or less. My only option is to either record and edit the sound myself or find a chip on-line (thanks for the link) that holds more.

Found it! It was listed under "Weyland-Yutani Flight Recorder prop on the cheap" by Collektor.
