The first full blown "family drop" is coming in just 11 days, so the clock is ticking! This thread is where I'll document the wifey's gear. Made some good progress so far, but the only thing completed is her sidearm.


I have never been able to find a true replica S&W M39, so when I saw this for $10 at our local flea market I nearly jumped out of my shoes. It needed a lot of work, but this is a foundation I could work with!

Red lines are where I cut, sanded, and heated (to reshape trigger). I want to trim the front end back even farther, but as you can see there is a screw post in there that I didn't want to cut out. I would hate for the structural integrity to be ruined. I'll have to tolerate that extra 1/8th to 1/4 of an inch.

Its not perfect, but for $10, some elbow grease, and sme spray paint I am thrilled.

I will begin her chest holster tonight.


In other aspects of the costume, I found this Camo set for $20. I know the camo is ...just terrible. SOOOO GREEN. :cry:

BUT, she is 4'10". Finding ANY camo that fits her is difficult, and finding a MATCHING set that already comes with a sleeveless top is just impossible! So I saw these and figured I would try to work some magic. So far the magic eludes me. I tried RIT dye remover and bleach already and the buggers havent faded a single shade. I am now thinking about white-washing them in some white acrylic painted laced with a touch of brown. Open to suggestions?


At the same flea market where I found the pistol, I found these boots. As with the rest of it, not perfect. But only a touch big on her and only $5. So boom. We are rolling with the footwear.

Tonight I hope to knock out the chest holster/rig and get some more accessories knocked out.

Hot damn! Plus you have the correct bandana! So you need to draw on the teardrop tattoo and get some fingerless gloves. What else? Ooh, a Night Raider strapped to her leg. You have a spare, right?

Yep! Much of that is in-hand. Screen accurate bandanna, close-enough gloves, and tattoo...ehhh. We'll see!

So while researching her chest harness/holster setup, I noticed some interesting things. Sorry if this was covered years ago before my time, but it looks like her harness was made of sling material.

Check these out.

In most pictures you see the 2" fastex buckle like all the marines wore on their belts (Armored marines on there webbing, and Gorman on his pistol belt) leading one to believe she wore the standard belt. BUT, In most pictures you can also see the lines/rows on the material just the slings had.

Also:
-Notation area A: It always looked black, right? Well I think it looked black for the same reason a lot of people used to thing the webbing on the marines was black and the same reason Hudson's motion tracker sling and webbing look black in this photo. The lens filter on the camera and possibly the dark green material being damp/sweaty.

-Notation area B (x2): Clearly visible are the adjustment slides on the sling area. This is not present on the standard belts worn on the marine webbing or Gorman's 'pistol belt'. This is a feature found on the slings.

-Notation area C: I wish it was a bigger pic, but here you can see the hint of green color on the belt as well as the lines more clearly.


So, now that I feel pretty certain Vaz's harness was a modified sling...I am building one from regular material anyways!!! I can't bring myself to destroy two Noble slings. As seen above I am just using the "standard belt" with a canteen/utility strap I have and it will be 'close enough' I think.

(ignore the leather, that is getting a lot of work done to it. it was just a placeholder really)

Thanks guys.

The kid's armor consumed this weekend, so got very little done for the wifey.

I did finished the holster though. I made it out of cardboard, then sprayed it with tacky adhesive and wrapped it in an patches of an old faux-leather jacket my wife didn't want anymore.

3 more packs of Rit-Dye remover and still not a single shade ligher on the BDUs. Gonna try one more bleach treatment before I break down and white wash them in acrylic paint.

Some good news is the sister-in-law has agreed to join in as an Alien!!! Time to dust off my old alien project from a couple Halloweens ago! Her boyfriend, however, has so far been on record that he refuses to dress up. We will be lucky if we get him into a Wey-Yu T-shirt. 'Booo' this man.

So it should be noted that this material is 100% cotton, and the tag claims "do not use bleach" (as something might happen. HA!)

The fading has been a tedious and over-budget chore. But I finally made some progress.

A- brand new, untouched

B- After 5 fading sessions over 5 days (1 pack rit dye remover on stovetop, then diluted bleach rinse, then 3 packs of rit dye remover in washing machine, then another brand of "white wash" dye, then an all day soak in diluted bleach.)

C- 2 mins and a $3 can of white enamel spray paint.


I can't say for sure that this method will work for everyone, but "dusting" the clothing with short bursts from about 12 inches away was infinitely more useful than all that other fancy crap. The fabric did get a bit stiffer and I havent tried to wash it yet, but for what I needed, it will do!

After years of being on the lookout for a more accurate camo set, I scooped some size small MAA pants a few months back. After some wheeling and dealing this month I finally acquired a shirt. The pants fit my wife well (pretty darn small) and its nothing a belt can't fix, but the shirt I acquired was a size men's medium/large.

Time to learn to sew!!! I am actually pretty proud of myself on this. I tried to mimic the seems that were already in the shirt and reproduce them in new places after cutting. I brought in the sides, removed the sleeves, re-positioned the pockets (to make room for even shorter removed sleeves), and shortened it. I think it all came out very well, or very strong at least. Not every stitch is straight, but I am very confident it wont be fraying or falling apart.

Then I realized another problem. My pants and shirt didn't match!!! It is very subtle, and I didn't notice until I got to the weathering stage. I think maybe my pants are 3pat and the shirt was 2pat? It was more obvious when they are wet. The pants had a more green tone to them vs. the strictly yellow tone of the shirt.

So I wanted to further fade everything anyways (practically required for Vaz and with the unever wear after moving the pockets, I had to blend anyways). So I gave the shirt a coat of acrylic white paint with a dab of green diluted with water. The pants I just used diluted white. While wet, I threw them in the dryer right away to lock in that goodness.

I am quite proud of myself on this one! Fits the wife good too. She may not wear it any time soon, so I tossed it on the mannequin doing my basement sweep.
