Hi all, thought i'd post some pics of my on-going smartgun build. it's based around a deactivated Yugoslavian copy of the MG42. Man this thing is heavy. placeholder frontend but it'll do for now. Bike parts in place for a test fit, these things are filthy and need a good clean before being painted. Attachment: I have used a motorbike handlebar assembly as the attachment to the gun body. Not really screen accurate but it works. Attachment: Attachment: rear end block is just a placeholder until I can make a resin cast. Attachment: still got a lot to do as you can see. |

Looking good so far. >I have used a motorbike handlebar assembly as the attachment to the gun body. >Not really screen accurate but it works. I have done a lighter AirSoft build, but even this required a very solid connection to handle the weight. If you don’t want to use a welder here I can only second to make it as strong as possible. The same goes for the back part. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your WIP pictures. Good luck! |

yeah I've only bolted everything through so far. I can maybe have a go at welding up the handle mount and back end at a later date but my welding skills are currently atrocious (you might be able to see the welding already done on the connection between the stem and the handlebar mount...yuk I used to love airsoft before the VCR came along....getting too old to run around forests in camo these days to get my exemption. my wip pics may take a back seat for a while because I've just scored (thanks to armourer) some parts to continue with my pulse rifle. thanks |

(failed) 3d printed trigger guard Attachment: threaded rod attachment point for handle stem Attachment: threaded handle stem Attachment: handle assembly Attachment: So I've still got lots to do. I've no experience with a welder but i'm going to have to learn. Really enjoying this project now, wish it hadn't been so long but life got in the way. |

And the 'camera' and other bits? All 3D printed? Cool stuff. |

bigbisont wrote: And the 'camera' and other bits? All 3D printed? Cool stuff. Yeah, i modelled the camera and printed it. It's in no way screen acurate but i wanted to make it look a bit less boxy and a little more detailed. I printed the block at the back and the trigger guard as well. by the way i'm more than happy to share the last two if anyone wants them. don't think i have the model for the camera any more. cheers |

Great progress! I like the handle and your 3D Designs. Will also make that disc thing on the front of the ammo drum? |

the drum disc isn't too tough to model but i'm unsure how to connect it to the shroud. lots of JB weld I guess Attachment:

Metal would be cooler, but gluing 3D printed parts is easier. At the end it might just be a not so relevant weight question. BTW: What arm/springs do you use? |

At the moment I don't have any plans to mount it on a vest. Too much money. I remember one of the members here made one a while back so maybe that would be an option |

If you look around there are also tutorials online for making your own budget steadicam harness and arm. I looked into this option but taking the time of getting materials and work into account I decided it was worth the money to buy a rig. I got the CamTree rig off eBay for around $250. |

Hi, I would buy if I could believe me but the gun being full metal is mega heavy and the big payload versions of the Steadicam are quite expensive. I've seen some Chinese versions for about £500 but they still aren't really rated for the weight of the gun which is going to be over 15kg with all the bits i'm putting on it. To be honest i'm quite happy to build it and display it in much the same way as the HCG guns are mounted on a display stand. I'll have a look and see if I can find some build tutorials for the arm though. half the fun is building things after all cheers |

well I told you my welding was bad oh well it's done now and i'm happy enough with it. it really solid so all good. I'm waiting on some proper gunmetal paint to come next week so it'll start to look a bit better then. Attachment: I've also started to form the aluminium for the drum cover and am waiting for some 3d printed parts to carry on with it. hoping to get this finished in the next week or so. Attachment:

Hi all, so I've been slowly making progress on this project. Had hoped to have had it done by now but … life anyway here are some more progress pics, first the drum cover. it's aluminium but i'm no terry English. Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: now the handguard, cut from aluminium tubing and I had to print a new rear block to attach it to. it's really solid and i'm pleased with it. I've also had a crack at some of the other drum cover pieces and have painted the barrel to a consistent finish. Humbrol gunmetal paint is great side by side by actual gun metal. Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: attached the drum cover ….. thing ??? to the drum. Not sure the gunmetal works on this so I may re-think. Attachment:

so here is my take on the targeting sensor at the front. It needs some extra paint detailing but i'm happy with it. Attachment: Attachment: and that's a wrap for this evening. Few more bits of left to do but it's getting there Attachment:

I've been wondering how I would display my smartgun after I've finished it. I thought about making a little stand for it like the HCG smartgun. But. . . then I remembered that when I bought the gun it came with this... Attachment: It's an anti aircraft tripod and I think it'll look great mounted on it. Not sure my wife agrees though, some negotiation is coming. |
