Hey all!

So I've taken up to rereading the technical manual, I love how it's written, I especially love the quotes from the different Marines and how they're worded.

I want to write an ALIENS story, pretty much an unexperienced (as in no Xenomorph contact) crew wading into the hellish nightmare that WY is creating on another colonized planet. As the technical manual alludes, the LV-426 incident is just rumour and speculation. I mean, it is pretty out there, right? who would believe some woman who's been frozen for nearly 60 years? That kind of thing has to mess with your mind a lot, hey?? ;)

Anyway, I have been trying to find out what the enemy force the technical manual is referring to is called. I only found nicknames, like "Beebops”, “Bugboys”, “B-Boys”, “Falangists”, “Wantanabes”...

Any idea of what their official name is? what are their priorities? What are they capable of? What's their track record like?

Thanks!

I am guessing the Wantanabes might be a play on the word "Wannabes" directed towards hired guns, mercs, militia or security types. I haven't read my manual in a while. Or if you pull the Wantanabes word apart it has parts of Weyland-Yutani in it, which once again would point back to the hired guns. I know, its a stretch.

Good luck with the story.

That's interesting! I never noticed that!

Any suggestions? I'm not sure I want to stick with an open battle between the Colonial Marines and these Beebops as WY goons, cause in my story there will be a representative similar to Burke that the Marines have to escort

Also interesting is the term "Falangist", which according to the dictionary means:

Falangist[ fuh-lan-jist ]
noun
1. a member of the Falange.

Or

Falange[ fey-lanj; Spanish fah-lahn-he ]
noun
1. the official state political party in Spain from 1936 until disbandment in 1977.

Also over on Urban Dictionary, "Beebop" means:

"A yellowish hue designed for cars in the late 1980s" which makes sense when reading about the planet with yellow vegetation which was high in amino acids. It could be their colour of their camouflage?

Could it be the "Bug-Men" from the Aliens: Colonial Marines comics?

On the yellow planet (Fujima 514) the Bebops are called Tokugawa geneboss(es) in a portion of the Tech Manual that got edited out. Dom has this archived on his page here:

It's on the page with the yellow dropship.

I feel the reference to "bug boys" is just derogatory slang for a specific (but still human) enemy and was added by Lee as a possible origin for Hicks' "it's a bughunt" line. Lee seemed reluctant to create any new alien enemies for the USCM, and while I admire his restraint I do wish he'd thrown in a few more clues...

Cool, so still a mystery, but another clue! I have to do some more research into these terms.

I'm with you on the derogatory slang and them being human. I sure wish we knew more about them though!

Feel free to explore this you guys/girls, I need all the help I can get!
