The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

That's a good way to look at it Simon. Even if I can correct the outer profile to be more angular, the ridges will still be too smooth. I'll do some work on it, but I will need to accept some aspects of it aren't going to change.

Trompe l'oeil

Crisp "wear" lines can trick the eye into thinking it is seeing an angled edge. Paint it like a sharp edge is there and it is very unlikely anyone will call you on it!

Hold on, the lobster plates on my cloth covered helmet do not appear to be Spat's (I bought them secondhand). Anyone recognize them? I'm curious now who made them!

Black plastic. These predate Chef's (plus he uses silver), and they aren't fiberglass like MAA did. Any thoughts?

Back to the pot for some final work. Charlie wanted a better shot of the bullet hole, so here you go! Also I thought I'd take the opportunity to do a before and after of the charcoal weathering. So here's the front:

And here's the back. I love how it brings out the texture of the helmet. The name stencil is a first pass; I tried doing it somewhat freehand with a Sharpie marker, but I'm going to go back over it with black paint.

I didn't want to leave this thread hanging. I trimmed the curves off the Spat lobster plates as much as I could to bring them more into line with the screen used ones, and then I followed Terran's advice when painting and weathering them to make the ridges stand out more.

The yoga mat material is just in place with some duct tape at the moment (and of course now I see that it slipped down before I took the picture). I still want to secure the lobster pouch before I permanently attach the mat to the plate.

There's still a little bit to do, bit it's almost done!

I did use black on my very first sets (and coincidentally I've just pulled a set of lobster plates in black as I had room on the former). But if they are prior to Feb 2013 then they definitely can't be mine as I hadn't made them at that point.

They don't look like mine as the raised sections look a little shallow.

Hi Chef! I followed the trail back to Robin Yang who made the lobster plate sometime about a decade back. I'm still hoping I might be able to buy a second set from him so the helmets match. I think it turned out pretty well, but if I can I'll swap them out.

Thank you UK_Jackson! I'm repainting it right now as a matter of fact.
