They had some pretty awesome shoes on the Nostromo! Attachment: Damn it's a lot of work to modify these things... Attachment: A little more paint and it'll be done! Attachment: I'm not even going to consider modding the bottoms (they had more of a work boot sole, still not sure how they did that...), but these are super comfy and quite the conversation piece! |

The d-rings.....they look perfect!!!! Where oh where did you find them?? I don't care if have to redo the ones on my shoes, they look so much more accurate than mine! And are you going to put the third vent hole in the side? Charlie |

Another question as well. What is that tool you used to punch the hole in the leather striping? (And no sneaky saying its a hole puncher!) Charlie |

I am going to do the third vent hole! You know me too well man! The hole puncher is a relic of a by-gone era. Nothing I've had has worked as well as this beast. It was my dad's and has multiple size hole options. Newer one break so easily... I'll dig up my source for the d rings and post it. The leather I used was scrap from the boots made by my employers for the U.S. Olympic team! |

But that kinda *is* what it's called: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=leather+hole+punch&client=firefox-a&hs=KM8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=D2V1U9C_GoLfPejNgLAP&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1920&bih=956 I had one. It never broke, but it did go quite dull after a couple of months' heavy usage. I do mean heavy, though... as in 4-5,000-odd punches per day. |

Ok. So it is a leather hole punch. I honestly didn't think that is what it was based on the picture. Learn something everyday! Charlie |

Haha, I have one with many different sizes, so does my Dad, heavy duty bugger! No breaking here, Dad steals mine cause his is always lost. He uses them for his harness for the chuckwagon, he's always fiddling with new harness! haha. I use them for crafty things, it's a bit overkill! haha I did find sew on white 3/4 inch D rings! let me know if you guys want a link, they are not an auction so it's safe ![]() |

D rings: http://myebestbuy.com/p021d-ring1pc.aspx You want the 3/8ths white plastic. I used blind rivets (also called Tandy rivets) and totally got busted using the rivet clamping thingy at my work. Oh well, they knew I was odd already... |

Haha! That's cute! What size rivets did you use? Thanks for the D ring link! |

Exactly like in the movie cool, was not sure PF Flyers were still available with the popularity of converse |

Not badly priced either. I got a pair as a birthday present a few months back, but a quick search of Zappos and eBay shows that they aren't hard to get. It certainly beats trying to track down Ripley's Reebox hightops... You'll need to seam rip the rubberized PF logo off the side of each shoe, and there's a small green bit in the back of the sole that comes off easily with a sharp knife. Then it's just making the leather loops and buying d-rings and blind rivets. |

Want to help me with a cat carrier? ![]() nocternus wrote: Exactly like in the movie cool, was not sure PF Flyers were still available with the popularity of converse Still made, but made in China. ![]() EDIT: And one more tiny comment, if you are interested in shoes. They come with a red stripe around the bottom (it's on the rubber sole, just below where it meets the material of the shoe upper). On Ripley's shoes, the whole thing was painted white and they put another sole on the bottom (looks like an additional layer, not sure why). Dallas' shoes, however, have the red line and the standard sole. Charlie |

Cool project! Looks great! Furthest I got with something like this was I picked up a pair of Bug Stompers in my size in my favorite color (Black). All I had to do was pay ![]() I consider what happened on the Nostromo the past though... about 57 years back ![]() |
