The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Time for a discussion.

Abdominal Pad colour.

What are peoples thoughts. I'm pretty certain they are not black but a dark grey. The question is how dark? Is it grey or some oddball taupe colour or whatever newfangled name someone has come up with?

Has anyone got any decent post production or screen used pictures of it in various lighting conditions?

I've seen the 'Frost' pictures and a few others, but I always like a good debate and seeing what people can throw into the melting pot.

Discuss away!

I have an original and they're definitely dark greyish and not black. Noble and I worked together to colour match it for his replica ab-pad a while back, I think he may be able to help more in terms of exactly what shade it might be etc.

Harry, you're diamond.

I'm hopefully going to have a fabric sample to send to you soon for some ratification.

I've had the first one through, but the fabric was crap and the colour was off a little. So trying again.

Admittedly it could be the light reflecting off of the material.

I think Harry having an original in his possession and saying "it's definitely dark greyish and not black" is pretty conclusive evidence of their colour.

It's just now finding out what constitutes 'dark greyish'.

Did I say it was black?! Demonstrating how it could be confused

Thank you

In the past I imagine everyone has gone for black due to consistency. It's hard to match something back to its original colour that's nearly 30 years old, and will have been used and abused over the years. Unless of course you're able to look under the ab and crotch pads where the light shouldn't have altered it :D

You didn't but admittedly I thought that's what you meant too. No worries now we know what you meant, Aliens is so dark & shadowy that it's hard to see a lot of stuff!

Have you got a fairly recent photo of the pad Harry taken in it's own right and not as part of a manequin, the pictures out there are donkeys years old?

Looks rather like the nearly-black-grey-vinyl that was a common feature of car interiors at the time.

To my eye.

indeed... but you try finding it now!

I just need a source of abandoned Novas and Metros!

I only really noticed it when looking at Terry's set.
