The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ordered a welder in complete cold cast from spat. Just so that when i chip the hell out of it at cons it will look well weathered.

Light sand on the seal line and filled any air bubbles and metal putty. Grey finished putty that if the paint chips off. It doesn't show pink or white filler. Also sanded back a few parts to replace with metal parts

Got a friend to machine up an aluminium nozzle tip for the welder.

After a polish with 0000 steel wool it was time to paint the brown bess auto paint match. over the entire welder.
ImageImage
Once the brown bess dried. I painted all the black bits on the welder with humbro matt black 33
and sprayed the aluminium nozzle in flat black.
Once dried i dusted on mig black smoke p023 and wiped off any excess with a rag the matt clear coated the lot and then chipped off some paint to expose the cold cast and metal parts that were replaced. Mounted the welding lens to the welder with 4mm dome hex bolts and tapped a tread into the body of the welder on both sides.

lashed some paracoard and done.

Looks great, I'd just be a little wary of attaching the paracord there, possibly the weakest spot on the welder.

My welders have aluminum (aluminium?) bars embedded in the resin at the neck where the screen attaches, and the screw goes through the bar. So on my kits, that's actually a pretty strong spot.
