Here is my tweaked Windrix leading a squad. Nothing major going on there, but glad to have him in the thick of it. I'm thinking of getting really unique with his webbing too. Maybe do a double knife thing. You know, something 'different'.

My custom Ski and Crowe. Minimal paint and no graffiti yet, mostly just a lot of razor blade and dremel work.

I have the bodies and built the webbing for Frost and Apone.

Decent doner heads elude me at the moment for those two. I also need to figure out how I will sculpt the VP70 holsters for Crowe and Apone.

Thats it so far. Thanks for looking.

Very nice work! I myself am very into the neca customisation game right now.

May I ask where Crowes head came from?

Thanks guys.

Nick, the Crowe head was from a hunger games Cato figure I bought loose off ebay for the job. both doner heads were a bit oversized and needed a fair amount of work.

Are the arms on your wierzbowski hudson sleeves with hicks arms?

Also, check out the expendables 2 hale caeser figure for a decent apone head ;)

Yes it is, good eye! I thought I had a picture of what the joint into the shoulder looked like, but I guess I never uploaded it from my home PC. A good soak in hot water helps quite a bit in both bandaged arm removal and new arm installation.

Thanks for the Apone head suggestion. That is a damn fine idea (its not like it actually looks like Terry Crews or anything!)

We need to find someone who can mold and cast the helmet.

A little birdie told me there's one in the works through Shapeways ;^)

So Bigbisont: can you walk us through how you did Ski's arms? After my Xeno's arm broke off I'm worried about damaging a Marine by twisting the arm the wrong way.

I must have deleted the pic for some reason. Its a much softer plastic than the alien warriors so snapping shouldnt be a concern as it has some give to it. Basically its just a socket type system where the bicep part has the female end and the shoulder joint the male. The peg is squared off as its only supposed to rotate laterally (not a true "ball socket") so those hard edges are hard to simply "pull out" without softening the plastic.

So after a soak in HOT water to soften things, a little brute force and twisting did the trick for me. It does appear to stretch a little bit and right when you think the part will stretch too far and rip, it gave way and popped out. Installation is reverse of removal

The sleeve roll is just friction fit in there, so just dont lose it when you pop the bandaged arm off. Also make sure you put the sleeve roll on BEFORE you install the new arm. The sleeve roll does not fit over the bicep, so it has to go on first.

I wont guarentee it "can't break/rip". I am just saying I did it twice and it didnt rip/break on me. Good luck!

Squad's looking good there mate, would love to army build those guys myself :)

Quick Q,
What does Hicks' (from the two-pack) head look like under his lid?
Can see there's paint under there, but wondered how much hair sculpt there is.

Cheers,
Doug

Quite a bit of hair, in fact. The secret bonus is that its pre-molded to receive a racal.

The racal addition(s) is something I am working on too.

Thanks for the pics
That's a nice little coincidence, shame about the hole in his head.

Wonder if the lid would sit better if he had a little less hair, on mine at least it looks like it's balanced on his head

Cheers,
Doug

After a hair cut and color change I may like that one better than the one I used. Mine looks like a baby-faced teenager while that guy looks a bit hardened.

Post subject:  Re: Neca marine Customs (couple dudes & racal MADNESS!)

Thanks guys. Got some more "practice" in. I had more practice heads than I care to admit...

But I tried a little something different for each. Gluing on parts/bands, sculpting from scratch, and even transplanting a McFarlane headset. I tried to attack each head differently.

Image

I am not unhappy with the results! The paint job on the hair is another story! I'll keep practicing...

Image

I continued my goofing off head onto a goofing off spare-parts body.

My guys waiting for Apone and Frost to show up (and apparently a properly produced Ripley eventually!)

Everytime I check out this thread the squad's looking better and better!
The racals are very impressive, liking the extra pouches on the "spare parts" marine :)

Cheers,
Doug
