The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I am starting on my Charlies, and I am going with the dickies khaki shirts route as I have them on hand. I was looking that ones most of us on here have modified start with the USMC short sleved khaki shirts which do not have the neck button and button hole. Is it a problem to have the neck button hole? or is that a nitpick detail?

as it turns out this shirt does not have an internal collar stiffener like other dickies. But it does have two panels sewn together.
Image

So I removed the panel, and ironed some interfacing onto one of the panels and will sew it into a mandarin collar.

Image

Is there a height of the collar? would an inch be about right in height?

An inch would be about right I think! Great job!

Ok. I will be sewing it up at an 1 inch tonight. We had a surprise weekend visit from my future-in-laws this Saturday morning. So all the time was spent kid proofing the house and with them.... The extra collar material will provide more than enough material for two pocket flaps.

Cool. Thanks Retro, That is basically what I had to do in the end. The leftover fabric from the collar would have had the twill weave running the wrong direction. So the extra fabric gets folded and pressed and this the result.

Well, once again, the weekend was not as productive as I wanted. :(
Both pocket flaps are sewn back onto the shirt and are ready for name tapes.
Image

I am ready to sew down the mandarin collar now. But one can easily see the flap seam from the shirt. I noticed the USCM shirts don't have this issue as the fold over looks like it goes way back.... will this be an issue as an "approvable" Service C shirt?

And is there any approved distance the name tapers are above the pockets? I've seen the tapes flush to over an 1/8 inch spacing above the pockets. Any feedback before I sew them on?

I'm not current on the real life equivalent regulations, but I would think the way Gorman did it would be ideal. Just a small gap

Very nice work so far fulla.
I think one of the all time hardest things (when doing stuff by hand), is to duplicate your results - especially for things that get located sided by side - nice work with those pocket flaps!

Hey. Thank you for the feed back. I can set up a tutorial about how I did the pockets of desired. I wanted to check on the height of the tapes. On my old BDUs I think the name tapes were flush against the pockets.

And. Cr@p. I got the shirts done with name tapes sewn on and the dry cleaners lost them. :( I'm going to try and start a third one middle of the week after I finish rewiring my smartgun for better sound. And leads on fast turn around name tapes in uscm font?

Lost them? I'd fucking throw a flaming bag of dog shit into their store.

Email Linda Kehley at Camotech. Tell her you're willing to pay for rush service. It's the only way you'll get it in time.

Excellent. Thank you Dom. The request was submitted. I'll start on the next ones this weekend. In the meantime I'm trying to get more sound out of my SG.

Any advice on how to attach the screaming eagle hat badge to the service cap? I was thinking of gluing in a small screw and using an awl to push thru the hat band and install and nut it into place....

That's exactly what I do. Use two part epoxy. Strong as hell.

Ok. after getting help from a seamstress (my mom's sewing shop actually) the new shirts are modified and tapes are on. I went with what Gorman's shirt had for tape placement. With my torso height, If I wear ribbons I should be ok. The sleaves are still a little long so I'll hem them up by 1/2 an inch. The bottom of the patches is parallel with the sleeve bottom.
