The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I have been working on a pep of Colonial Marine armor since I got bit by the bug at Dragon-con. I had never peped anything before and it seemed like it took forever to find the files that I was looking for. The predator mask was my first pep effort. I just started resining the armor a few weeks ago and used the mask for practice. Here is where I am at so far:

I will post some more pics of the process and details later today.

The process of the build so far.

The first .pdo of armor that I could find was not the detailed one that I had seen others working on. I made this to hold me over until I could find the more detailed files. It took me a few weeks to track those files down.

After finding the desires file:

I tried to make some armor out of flattened out PVC pipe assembling them like a foam build. It didn't work out. But I will be using the PVC to build the shoulder bells.

Here is the camo utilities/BDUs I am going to start with. They are a discontinued pattern from 5.11. I have all of the patches to sew on and need to make a mandarin collar. I plan on painting the armor OD green.

I attempted this exact build. Yours looks to be going quite a bit smoother than mine ever did! I ended up going with the pepped chest and back, but scratch built the rest of the setup because I was not particularly skilled with the resin (nor patient enough to do the cutting of the small bits!). Good luck!

Hey Bigbisont, this was my first time working with resin. It ended up being a lot easier than I thought. Most likely I will scratch build the bells the same way you did. I was actually looking at the way you did yours to begin with. Very inspirational, your's turned out great! The bells will be 2 layers of flattened PVC pipe with the "windows" cut out of the top layer.

88reaper88, Thanks for doing those files they are much appreciated. I went through a lot of posts that had links for the files but they either were dead ends or the less detailed ones. I even PM'ed a few people here and over on the RPF but never heard back. Somehow I started cross referencing peoples names across the 2 boards and tracked down the files that Graves used for his foam armor. Got to do a whole lot of reading and learning about this stuff in the process.

I haven't thought much further than my main upper body armor build. Still working on the wife for a pulse rifle. Hopefully the tax refund will aid in that. The way I see it is the armor and the gun tell everyone what you costume represents anyway. Everything else is just details and SA. The plan is to be ready to go for DragonCon.

This is some great work you did here, and I always have to give credit to anyone willing to go the pep route. This is prop replicating in the extreme, kudos to you for your perseverance!

I went to Walmart today to get thread to sew my mandarin collar on my cammies and walked out with Aliens on Bluray for ten bucks. It was right there staring at me at the end of the sewing isle. Bad enough I have Aliens recorded on my DVR at my desk at work. Yeah, thats right. I have a DVR on my desk at work and watch Aliens every Saturday to pass the time.

Been spending most of my free time working on my PR. I am finally back at it with the armor after a long winter with too many projects.

Sometimes you can't help but to put it on, even though it is nowhere near finished. Now the need to work on this will be keeping me up at night.

Does anyone have any input on my armor's sizing? One of my big hold ups was that I felt this set was way too small so I rebuilt a slightly larger pep that seamed way too big. I couldn't really find a happy medium and I am getting a better feeling about this one. Especially since I think it turned out considerably better than my second attempt. Time to start building the legs and shoulders.

Looks about right.

Remember the upper section is just a cuirass. So it should cover your rib cage and not your entire torso.

Technically, it should join up at the sides under your arms, but size wise front/rear I think that looks fine.
Nice job on the Pep work.

Finally got the fiberglassing done. Hit it with some paint to see all the flaws. I have lots of sanding in my future. But, it's progress.

Nice, you got the more screen accurate Eagle and Delta patches. Kuddos on the mandarin collar as well, it really helps keep the USCM standard even with the different camo pattern. Great job on all of it!

Thanks. Just wondering, what makes the Eagle and Delta patches more screen accurate?

Some Eagle patches have goofy five pointed stars instead of dots. The Delta is sometimes sewn in sky blue which just ain't right. There's a difference of oppinion about whether the background was really black or dark navy.

In the words of Johnny Cash..."One piece at a time"

I am planning on doing the rest out of flattened out PVC pipe. No helmet planned until the rest of it is ready to go, but eventually.

The family was out of town so i have been a busy bee. Bondo and sand bondo and sand. At this point it is good enough, can't do anymore bondo. I need to get working on other parts. The armor is supposed to be banged up anyway. "For what its worth"

Coming along nicely there buddy.

It's a real bugger of a process, but the end result is good.
Mine took me three months of hard graft to get right. And it's still not 100% at that.

I love days off from work. Sometimes you can get a lot done. I am strapping it up a little different than most so that the shoulders will be removable. Should make it easier to store and transport as well as add a bit of on the go customization for a particular mission.
