Who the heck is THIS guy on the left? Stunt double? The crew wore the BDUs for fun? I guess if I was the crew I'd want some BDUs...

It looks like the nostromo pistol with some kind of crazy barrel added to it.


Were the SA80s painted brown bess? They just looked black in the shadows on film, but man I need one now!
(Or are they just the Coyote Tan color scheme that I guess can be a standard option (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SA-80_rifle_1996.jpg)

Are those weapons behind Cameron water cooled machine guns with fluted jackets? The type that were mounted on WW1 biplanes? It's possible Bapty had some in stock and they were cast in rubber for the SULACO as they look interesting stacked upright...

Actually, they could be partially stripped Air Cooled Lewis Guns... With the outer barrel sleeve removed to reveal the fluted air cooling surfaces around the barrel and the butt stocks removed... There are various versions... I'm at work at the mo but will do a bit more research later... The barrel jacket or surround isn't clear... And this is just a very quick guess...

bigbisont, you know you can upload pics onto the forum, which negates the need for slow to load systems such as Photobucket and also ensures the pics stay visible in case of the PB user moving/deleting the pics or cancelling their profile? :wink:

Thanks, I do need to just make that a habit. In my mind I know I wont be moving or deleting them, but I know your are correct it is a more stable method for long term and I need to get that 5 image per post thing drilled into my head! Cleaned up what I could fit.

I had a Hyperfirm Lewis gun but it was all one big giant piece of rubber so I couldn't do that with it.

It's possible that the SA80's were just the standard OD green that they normally come in.

The grip, butt-plate and fore grip are all green.

With the filters for filming, it may have skewed the colour. We know how often that happens! Brown Bess / OD argument all over again!

Agreed Chef - I think they could have been rubber moulds for the racks? If they were they could have painted them any colour I suppose...

As it happens, we'd only really fully adopted them in the British Army after the film was made... the filming was 1985... and the SA80 was replacing the SLR from around 1987/88 as I recall... At the time, they were still using Sterling SMGs, SLRs and L4 7.62 Brens for the TA... Right up to and including the first Gulf War in the early nineties... So the SA80 looked very futuristic for the film...


And... Showing my age... Before that... As a cadet... We still used .303 Lee Enfield rifles and .303 Bren Guns...

When they handed us out live ammo, they were cutting it in 10 round strips from boxed vickers machine gun belts!

The blank firing adapter we had for the Bren was a shredder for wooden tipped blanks...

Seriously, seriously old school!

Anyway... I digress... Apologies!

Interestingly, Dark Horse did an ALiens Vs. Predator one-off call "The Web" (https://digital.darkhorse.com/profile/2 ... r-the-web/) and in it one of the characters is carrying a partially dismantled Lewis. I'll snag a photo of it later, but it matches the look of the ones behind Cameron. Coincidence? Probably.

Remar was quite young back then and the person in the pic looks more middle aged, with gaunt cheekbones, whereas James was a bit fuller faced:

That is why I guessed one of the crew just chilling in a BDU. They appear to be in the hive and I was leaning away from a stuntman because the biggest "stunts" there were Ski and Crowe going down (both rolls played by stuntmen, so no need to swap them out) and Dietrich getting scooped up (wrong gender).

But now that I think about it, I suppose he could be the frost stuntman who is about to get lit on fire. Cameron does appear to be pointing a flame thrower at him, after all...

Anyhoo, the rifle above is obviously a stunt rubber model. Unfortunately the pic is nearly devoid of colour and hard to tell if the SA-80 is the was given the original green paint scheme, or painted brown bess etc.

The age old question...what happened to the APC?

I 'believe' it was leased from London Heathrow and thus given back, but the amount of metal that was stripped out I'm guessing would have made it unusable as a towing vehicle so....I'm not 100% on that.

He was definitely present during the Queens chamber shoot, helping Sigourney Weaver with the weapons as shown in one of the making of documentaries.

But that does bring up the point, why is he in camo when none of the Marines made it to the Queen's chamber? Just enjoying the fact that he had a set of USCM BDU's?? I know I would have worn the heck out of them!

That pic may just be during the initial search of the atmo sub-level, rather than the queen chamber?
